Saw a Bald Eagle today. Normally, not a big deal since there are probably over 1,000 of 'em in N.J.

This was different. Usually, we see them by looking up. The white feathers are in shadow.

Today, I was at the top of the ridge in Ken Lockwood Gorge, N.J. I was looking down on the river when a Bald Eagle flew under me and along the river. There were no clouds in the sky and the bright sunlight, reflecting off the white feathers on it's head and tail --

Spectacular.

Something just makes me stop to look for them or when I see them I almost have to catch my breath as they are so majestic and almost commands my attention. They are protected here and have become celebrities b/c there’s a camera next to their nest..I think with the Fish n Wildlife blessing and you can go to their site and watch live.

who wants my Maggie, a schmorkie (yorkie mix). I holler at him whenever he swoops close when I let her out to do her business. I’ve even called him a dirty buzzard and other rude names. I prefer the orios and cardinals and humming birds. We feed them all, but I’m not feeding eagles.

7. Cool, what a difference view! About 1,000? I always tend to think of them as a Western bird...

Way up in Inwood Park (top most western Manhattan) about 15+ yrs ago they had several nesting pairs over a few years. Can't remember if bald eagles or ? golden eagles.

As they began to range I'm almost sure one ended up in NJ, if I remember correctly! 😄

NOT laughing at NJ - I have dear 🧡cousins who've lived in Northern NJ my whole life. 👍
Luckily my sis and I can usually take NJ Transit and walk to their house. They then usually drive us back to the bigger town where we can get a bus back to Northern Manhattan and head home from there. 👍
