(63,912 posts)volunteered their own homes as a site for a small gathering. I met my now and forever husband at a brunch held at a member's house. A small fee was collected at the door to help defray costs to the host.
He said he liked the outfit I was wearing and enjoying talking to me. I gave him my phone number and he called me. We met up at a PWP sponsored dance. After that, there was romance in the air!
I had a no-fault divorce because I wanted to spare my kids any trauma. My ex moved out and went to his girlfriend's apt. My divorce attorney wanted to really nail my ex on adultery but I couldn't bear having to relive any of how I was mistreated. He immediately married his girlfriend the minute we were divorced. I swore I'd never marry again, but my now husband would not take no for an answer. I moved to New Haven where he was then and we got married on NY Day, 1986.
My ex died 3 years ago. I did not attend the memorial service.

(36,281 posts)...advertising the Jethro Tull Aqualung tour in Northern Virginia in 1971 or 72. I remember meeting her, but I don't remember any concert posters. We became best friends for years, but not romantic. That didn't happen until 2006 when we were both single again. She rented us a snowed in cabin in Wyoming for a week and plied me with liquor, lol. We married in 2016, bookending one another's lives.

(6,122 posts)I was newly sober, he'd been sober for a year. There's an unwritten rule in AA that says you shouldn't get involved with someone for a year if new to sobriety. We were married (and sober) for 38 years.

(54,405 posts)After I graduated college, I went to West Berlin to play guitar and hang out with my brother. In one of the folk music cabarets, after my set, I went out into the audience, who sat in long rows of benches. I had met a girl from Münster/Westfalen the night before. Sort on the overly chatty side, but pleasant enough. This night, July 25th, 1974, she told me she was leaving for China the next day, but I should meet her girlfriend from "up north." I said sure, where is she? She said, "right here." She leaned back, and I saw a tall, beautiful vision with long blonde hair (I preferred brunettes) that took my breath away. I had no idea what kind of a pickup line would work on a woman like that, so I just stuck my hand out and said, "hi." My conditioning in high school and college in the USA had taught me that a nerd like me NEVER gets a woman like that. But she didn't know that, and it dawned on me just in time that if I kept up with that attitude, I never would end up with a woman like that.
She found me somewhat interesting (not many Americans spoke good German), but considered America to be the far side of the moon, a place she would never see. She was from the rural farm country of northwestern Germany, near the Dutch border. Twenty-one years later, I was introducing her to POTUS in Washington.
We will have been together for 50 years this July.
