She would have a Hostess something two.

(8,580 posts)Every day, for most of elementary school. I was a notoriously picky eater as a kid. I remember eating in the lunchroom once and being forced to stay until I finished my spinach, which I hated.
In junior high they had cuban sandwiches every day, and that suited me just fine!

(418 posts)As a kid, peanut butter and jelly. Or peanut butter and apple. Still part of my repertoire, though leftovers are first choice for a packed lunch. If there are no leftovers, my go to is some form of a burrito.
My other favorite as a child was cream cheese and olive. I'm making some today.

(11,916 posts)Once mom started freezing the juice boxes (Hi-C Slimer juice), shed do tuna, ham, or egg salad. Shed always pack a bag of chips, cheese doodles, or a Tastykake, along with some fruit (apple, orange, or grapes).

(24,303 posts)or peanut butter, thermos with some tomato soup in the winter, a cold drink in warmer weather.
What was more interesting was how it was packaged. Everything wrapped in waxed paper, if not a hard metal lunchbox, a brown paper bag that my mom folded neatly several times to close the top. New bag every day. For whatever reason, it seemed some kids had to re-use the bag until it was falling apart. They weren't poor kids, probably just had parents teaching them how to be thrifty.

(17,202 posts)In Brentwood, the elementary school sold milk only, with neighborhood mothers running the cash register. Because we had an hour for lunch (but no other recess period), it was possible to walk to the High School which had a real cafeteria, and we sometimes did that.
Then, when the family moved across the State, my schools all had real cafeterias, and the packed lunch became a thing of the past. I think lunch was like 25 or 35 cents.

Granny's house - boiled egg, fry bread, apple or orange, sometimes a piece of government cheese. She would wrap it all up in one of her old scarves.
I still have it.

(42,759 posts)I usually bought a bag of chips and a carton of milk and went outside and ate.
I didn't like the smell of the cafeteria. I can still smell it to this day.

(7,627 posts)Awesome field trips that we went on.
My field trip lunch consisted ofa refrigerated can of soft drink, a bologna sandwich and a small bag of potato chips.
In todays packed lunch, if I'm not intermittent fasting, I usually bring sliced green bell pepper rings, 2 mozzarella cheese sticks and a boiled egg for lunch.
Sometimes I might bring some plain walnuts or peanuts with me. There are times that I mix the nuts in a small reusable deli container, because I'm nutty sometimes.
