Is "little bastard" an appropriate name for a cat?

At the North Idaho Home for Wayward Cats, the residents name themselves after their personalities have revealed themselves to me.

The first resident is a Siamese who proved himself to be spoiled rotten. His name is Rotten. His name brings joy to all those who hear it.

The second resident is a Tuxedo who sticks to me like glue. Her name is Daddy's Girl.

Cat Three is a very large mostly-white female - looks like about 18 pounds of cat. She isn't a Maine Coon because the markings are all wrong - this cat has a blob of black on her head that'd qualify her to be on the old "cats that look like Hitler" website, tabby ears, tabby tail, pure white everything else. One day Rotten was in the bathroom with me and Cat Three decided to sprawl herself out in the middle of the doorway...and every time Rotten tried to leave the room she took one of those massive paws and whacked him right on the head so he couldn't get out. I finally had to pick Rotten up and lift him over this little menace to get him out of the room. After about the tenth whack I screamed out, "you little bastard, let him out!"

Pets should be named for their personalities. I named one of my dogs Dickie because he's a little dick.

Gone, now. Belonged to someone who lived nearby. Booger was a very good dog.

(Are you my neighbor?)

She was full of energy. She was good with visitors and liked people. She would try to jump on people and lick their face. Except for one unexpected visitor who was scoping us out for a burglary. She didn't like him and let him know. He never came back.

This is a cat. You are the person feeding, protecting, and caring for it. You can call it anything you want to call it. Little Bastard seems to be an appropriate name. It is nicer than some cat names I have heard.

- Egyptian cat goddess
- Goddess of war known for wrathful vengeance
- Images often carved of alabaster (mostly white cat, you say?)

Also, you can just use "Bast" as shorthand for "Little Bastard."

16. NO. Words have energy and you don't want to shove that type of energy on a poor cat.

How about Bodhi? It is a nice spiritual name and will bring him good luck, (in my opinion)

When I was running the Upstate New York Home for Wayward Cats my now-ex wife rehomed this little tortoiseshell cat. This poor beast was butt-ugly, so I named her Hormel because I figured I was gonna have to tie a pork chop around her neck to get the other cats to play with her. Hormel had a true love of hard rolls, which we learned quickly when we were having dinner one day and Hormel jumped up on the table, grabbed a hard roll, took it to the floor and ate it.

I once took in a pregnant stray, who looked about like what you'd expect a homeless pregnant stray to look like. (I think the proper term is "mangy old cat.&quot So, this cat got the name Happy Jack. When asked to explain what the name meant, I told my now-ex wife Happy Jack is a brand of mange medicine.

I had a kitten I'd tried to sex right after birth - I used to be able to do that - and named it Darrell after NASCAR driver Darrell Waltrip. When the kitty turned out to be a little girl she became "Dickless Darrell."

I had another tom - this one was definitely a boy - I named Dale after NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt. After he turned out to be gay his name became Al, after the South Park character Big Gay Al. His other name - remember, according to T.S. Eliot cats all have three names - was Seismos, because he was so big he kicked off the seismic sensors on Fort Bragg when he walked. This rotten cat had the most glorious tail imaginable; long and bushy and he waved it in the most fantastic way.

The North Carolina Home for Wayward Cats picked up a new resident when a kitty showed up at the door...she was black and we already had six black cats so she got the name Jesus as in "Jesus, not another black one!" (I have had a ton of black cats in my time; they are such nice cats.)

One of my orange cats started trying to nurse before he was completely delivered. Don't ask me how the hell he figured that one out, but I had to pull his back legs out of his mother. He became TB...the B stands for Boy and you can figure out the T on your own. When I took him to the vet to be neutered, they asked me what his name was. "Uhhh...you better put down 'Kenny Junior' because I don't think you want his real name in your records." When I went back the next day to pick him up the ladies at the vet clinic were all "are you sure you want him back? Everyone here has fallen in love with him." This particular harbinger of evil figured out how to climb up on my bed while his eyes were still closed.
