The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsFor those who are piano keyboard experts, when did they stop using the traditional MIDI "In and Out" ports?
It seems all the new ones switched to USB MIDI, but I need one with the two MIDI "In and Out" ports. So, what year did they last make them with those ports? Because those are the only ones I have use for.

(571 posts)...and I'm not an expert, but I'm wondering why you specifically need a keyboard with MIDI In and Out?
Polybius
(15,428 posts)Yes, I would like to use the keyboard with my laptop/iPad as well, but I also need the MIDI ports. Up until recently, every keyboard had them.

(571 posts)...but I thought there are adapters.
Polybius
(15,428 posts)Surprisingly, Google was no help in finding out when they were discontinued.

(15,428 posts)I just happened to check out a few models and none of them had them. Glad to know that I just got unlucky. I'll keep looking.

(15,428 posts)There's already two 12 ports and an a/c unit on this fuse.

(9,155 posts)I'd like to buy a controller, but not spend thousands on it. The only ones that still have MIDI ports are pro models.
I also don't know when, but companies started using USB because it is faster and, presumably cheaper. The only problem is that you can't connect directly from keyboard to keyboard with USB. You have to go through a host device.

(4,044 posts)I gave up on drivers for Win 11. Creative doesn't have them.
Twelve years ago, I bought it to make recordings. Unlike direct computer ports, an external USB box does not add any electrical noise to the signal.
Instead, I have a dozen or so different ways to do this, including using it with a Win 8 laptop. Easy!
Thanks.

(2,889 posts)Never had the ports but good speakers, I played them all the time when I got my first computer. My first computer came in a cow box. Tons of midi sites back then.

(5,134 posts)So that you have to buy new stuff to keep your old stuff working. I am dealing with this right now. My newest Mac does not have an AUX input. All of the old ones did. Why? They want me to buy a connector to patch those two things together. I am cheating I the fact that I have an old mixer that outputs in MIC< so I can plug that into my MIC input on the Mac. It isn't stereo, but I can still input other units and multiple mics.
To the last, I will grapple with thee... (freaking tech company owners)

Click on the picture & scroll through the different pic angles until you see the back panel. Those are clearly conventional MIDI ports.
It's not of matter of when it seems; it may be a matter of manufacturer.
