I think I must pick my numbers from a parallel universe where the numbers look identical to what we use, but are not recognized by the lottery balls. :/

(57,102 posts)... my Mormon brother in law was an all around and decent guy. Always there if I (or anyone) ever needed a hand. I always heard he equally wonderful wife say about something they couldn't afford, "When I win the lottery". So when he helped me get the engine out of my pickup and once again refused any cash, I filled his tank and got him a bunch of lottery tickets. He had an odd look on his face when I handed him the tickets.
I found out a day or so later Mormons consider lottery a step above witchcraft. I asked Tanna about it and told her it was a volunteer form of paying a tax. She told me if I really wanted to support something just send them money. That the lottery was about trying to get something for nothing. I told her the reason I got the tickets was because I thought they were getting them so that "when we win the lottery", they could get something. She stopped using the expression. And now my wife and I use it.
If I've bought 10 lottery tickets since the seventies, it's more than I would have thought, including the five or six I bought Cameron for helping me.

(16,975 posts)I'd say "When our ship comes in" One day when I was looking through the mail, our older daughter said, "Did our ship come in?" It has always made me smile. A year later, the Ohio Lottery started. My Dad bought us some tickets and thus started a long line of losing.
However, even if it seemed like it was powered by oars, our ship eventually came in, just a different cargo.

(7,627 posts)I look at like this and I repeat any of these phrases often.
1. It's my money and $10 for 5 separate numbers isn't going to break me.
2. It's my money, stop lecturing me on how I spend my money.
3. I only play the Mega Millions or the Powerball when the jackpot is extremely high.
4. If one doesn't play, you'll never win.
5. Most state lotteries do help public school systems.
6. It's nice to daydream about winning some sort of winnings. I'm not a greedy person. This house could use some serious updates.
7. Stop being a damn buzzkill.
I rarely spend fun money. I get this and a bottle of vodka about 3 times a year.

(16,975 posts)I play Mega Millions, 2 times a week. I used to play Power Ball, but I don't want to play 3 draws a week. If Mega Millions goes to 3 draws, I'll quit. I rarely hit anything, but it adds a little to Wed. and Sat. morning
Here's to the next hit!
