My computer was fine. I went to grab some grub, came back and now when I type 'w' into the URL bar, the entire browser (Chrome) freezes for like 10 or so seconds. Every other letter doesn't freeze it up ... so, I'm thinking maybe since every URL has 'www' that this is somehow causing it to slowdown? Is it just a cache problem or what?
When I use IE, it doesn't happen. Just on Chrome.

(17,742 posts)maybe it has to do with autocomplete and, as you said, so many URLs begin with "www" and it just hogs the memory temporarily.
Try turning off autocomplete (don't ask me how, I don't use Chrome) in your browser and see if that helps.

At least that's what I'd recommend.

(47,675 posts)As for the "w" thing, open up notepad and hold the "w" key down. If it works well there, it isn't your keyboard, it's Chrome. IE isn't a valid test. Notepad is about the simplest application on a Windows box. No fluff.

I can sympathize with your computer.

(38,000 posts)At least for the majority of sites. Nowadays, you only need to type the domain and the TLD extension. For example, type:
democraticunderground.com
And DU's main page will appear just fine.
