grabbing my hand with his tentacles. The suckers stuck pretty tight. I just stayed still until he let go and swam away, releasing a few puffs of ink to provide a diversion if I was a predator. I replaced the shell on the ocean floor and hoped he returned to reclaim it.

The diver took off one glove, despite the cold. He knows what he's doing.
Their outer membrane sticks to neoprene and will "tear." The diver had to put the glove back on, but he should have backed off then.
Oh, and yeah, their suction cups feel way weird and way cool!
