So my rightwing coworker who's struggling with this election...

...because he really hates Romney said today, "The thing about Obama is I think he's just lazy."

Now while this guy's a rightie, he's never given me any reason to think he's racist. Still, after a stunned silence (while I tried to think of a legitimate reason for him to say that), all I could come back with was, "Is it because Obama's Mexican?"

Not sure if he got the sarcasm. (Please don't flame me if this is the case with you.)

Anyway, uncomfortable laughter from both of us then end of conversation.

What would you have said to him?

...when he was saying all he can hear from Obama is, "More government, more government, no government."

The answer is always that's just the sense he gets.

Sounds to me like someone lacking any sense at all.

He'd just randomly yell, "FLAMER!" from his cubicle (to nobody in particular). One day I was out with one of my mentors while he took a smoke break and this asshole came out and said, "What is this, a liberal's convention?" My mentor yelled "FUCK YOU!" Then he wanted to know if he could teach him about UNIX. The guy couldn't work a Win95 machine. Not exactly in the league of UNIX administrators.

This guy isn't quite that bad, he just can't (or won't) justify his dislike of Obama in conversation.

MIGHT progress a conversation in a useful way. If it doesn't work, no harm done.
