The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWe need more handicap parking spaces. The percentage of handicap parking spaces was probably assigned as part of A.D.A.
That percentage was fine, 20 or 30 years ago. But now, the Boomers have reached their dotage. So the percentage of handicapped citizens has increased in proportion to the general population. But the percentage of required handicap parking has not increased to take into account the change in the population's needs.

(68,112 posts)My wife needs to use one. She has inoperable damage in the lumbar spine, so can't walk very far all at once. (Sone days worse than others.)
But, the letter of ADA can override the spirit. My one glaring example is the dog park near our home.
They have ONE handicapped spot, but the parking lot is 150 yards from the entrance to the park.
They clearly met the letter of the law, but hardly the spirit.
