Some are down here now. Those are the earliest of the birds. There'll be a surge at Thanksgiving. kayakjohnny Sep 2012 #3

Funny thing is they themselves wish they could be snowbirds but they can't afford to have 2 homes.

And another huge uptick just after New Year's Day.

Most stay til Easter traditionally, give or take a week or so and some even stay til May.

I've noticed over the years, that they seem to stay closer to 6 months, rather than the 3 or 4 months in the past.

And they are very good for our economy, though it gets tough on the roads.

Hope this helps ya!

.....including the people who live next door. They leave by the end of April and usually come back sometime the beginning of November.

I think it varies by where their northern home is -- the Canadians are the ones I usually start seeing first (identifiable by their Quebec & Montreal license plates) -- the ones from PA (like my neighbors) are usually among the last to arrive.

One thing is for certain -- you do NOT want to travel I95 headed north the weekend after Easter. I made that mistake once, and the usually 3 1/2 hour trip from Delray Beach (where I used to live) to Saint Augustine (where I live now) took about 5 hours.

at an RV park in Frostproof...about an hour south of Orlando. I seem to recall them being here all winter - as soon as it got cold in Ohio and until it got springy up there.

I never minded the snowbirds except for one thing - the greens fees got higher during snowbird season. A course I could play on a Friday in the summer for 15 bucks (full 18 holes with cart!) moved closer to 30 in the winter. It was still worth it to play golf in shorts during my Christmas vacation though.
