Salad with fat free dressing at that. The sign of true desperation in a dog , begging for salad.
You see, I am cruelly and maliciously starving him to death, and he is weak and emaciated, and he just doesn't understand how I could be soooooo mean.
Well, in his opinion. Reality can be subjective for some.
Ok, the objective truth, a couple of weeks ago, he hurt his back and was having trouble getting up. So, off to the vet. And, my little overindulged couch potato was up to 76 pounds, back in the spring at his 6 month he was 71.
Luckily, the back problem was just muscle strain, nothing serious, a doggie NSAID took care of it.
The real problem, if you ask him, is the fact he is now being starved to death.
Ruh Rho, doggie diet time! The vet says my 76 lb lump of fat and fur should be a svelte 60. So, no more tasty table treats, no more free-flowing goodies, just a measured portion of diet dog food (oh, the horrors, forced to eat dog food!) And the occaisonal light treat, like a couple of baby carrots.
More walks, well, they're stilly more waddle than walk, but ok, whatever works.
But progress is being made. We're slimming down a tad, a couple of pounds.
Sorry, pal, the good times are over. But I still love you.

(115,836 posts)I have a rather portly cat (17 lbs.) who begs for everything that does not have a significant vegetable component. He would not beg for salad. But he tries to steal any meat or dairy item, and even though he's kind of chubby he's still very fast, and he often succeeds. The vet says I should try to get a little lard off him. That will be difficult.

You are a good fur-friend for being the "meanie-pie" now for a healthier pooch later.
