(2,239 posts)It's raining outside. Every single door is mag-locked. We travelled through at least 4 sets of those doors.
Now starts baby triage to see how far along we are.

Tedious tedium. She's nervous, but happy! They hooked up a baby monitor and we can hear the babies heartbeat over it.

(2,239 posts)In the movies, this baby thing happens so fast! Come on baby!
tavalon
(27,985 posts)Yeah, it doesn't really happen like it happens in the movies.
I was a labor and delivery nurse for 17 years. Miss it, but my back couldn't do it any more. Now I take care of premature babies.

(27,985 posts)I'm sorry, but I just can't resist. Tonight is being brought to you by disorganized labor. The first often likes to take the long and winding road. But let's all cross our fingers that this one will decide to be speedy.
rDigital
(2,239 posts)and walk around for a while to get the baby moving.
Thanks for the best wishes.

(27,985 posts)I suspected that you might be at the starting gate, rather than the grand finish, but hey, your kiddo is being born after a truly monumental week. At least he or she waited for all the hoopla to be over and done with.
This is an adventure that just keeps adventuring. May you two get some rest tonight. It may be the last for a while.
rDigital
(2,239 posts)before then.
Also, I'm also very glad that my babies' first President will be someone who respects her rights as a female.

(27,985 posts)This may be "false labor" or early labor, no way to tell, even if the nurses and doctors told you it was false labor. But the body does need to practice - an Olympic runner wouldn't just go out and run without any practice. Same with the uterus. Mommy has probably been having practice contractions, or Braxton-Hicks for a while now. Tonight, from your description, was more organized than Braxton-Hicks usually are, therefore, it's possible that she really is in early labor or your child will give you one or two more days and then, here we come!
You are not the first nor the last new parents to have to make more than one stop at the Hospital before making it stick.
I hope I don't miss the wonderful announcement when it comes and it will come.

(47,675 posts)... transfer her to the hospital, but she suggested one last thing (old technique). I put my wife in the passenger seat of our '80 Dodge Aspen - vinyl seats (check) - leaf springs (check) - Purgatory Road (check, and yes that's its real name). I hit every damn pothole I could see both out and back. By the time we made it home, she was in full labor - still took nine HOURS of full labor, but it worked. They used to use horse-drawn buggies for the same thing, and the Amish still do. It beats medically inducing labor.
Hang in there and I wish you the best. It's a wonderful experience, and raising them is even better. Give her lots of hugs for me - AND DO NOT FORGET TO BUY ICE CREAM!
On Edit: If you forget to buy ice cream, I'll be pissed.

(47,675 posts)On a side note, after everyone was done and my wife and daughter were crashed in bed, I drove out to the local healthfood store and bought (forget what) but wrote a check for "$19.20" - Pay to the Order of "$19.20". Amazingly, it was processed and cashed. I still have that one. Perhaps I was a little wired.

(50,566 posts)I just want to say that so many people focus on the negative side of things, but you are in for the best experience of your life. It won't all be rainbows and ponies, and the first couple weeks can seem a little surreal, but once you have a child you will have countless thousands of moments of joy, pride and FUN! Also, kids are hilarious -- mine have kept me laughing for 16 years now.

You look for the first down, the field goal....lol
But it's a busy time for the OP so we will have to just light up our cigars and pace the Lounge....
