The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsTemperatures here have been in the low 20s, and tonight I'm going out for redneck karaoke
The last couple of nights, temps here hit 21 and 22. Yeah, I know there are places in the country that drop below zero but I just moved here after decades in Silicon Valley, and into a house with single pane glass and no heat.
So tonight my sister and I are going to check out the redneck karaoke at a local bar. Yee haw, y'all.

... that the "alleged" singer be REQUIRED to listen to a recording of him- or herself
cranked up to 11 for a full hour upon awakening the next morning (afternoon?).
.
Except for the time that I walked up to the neighborhood bar, forgetting that it
was karaoke night. There was a limo outside that had brought a few very young
American executives whose task it had been to take a group of very young visiting
Japanese executives out for a good time.
.
The young Japanese guys had opted for karaoke.
.
The first man up was EASILY the worst example of a VERY tipsy karaoke singer
that you could possivly imagine. Take what you just imagined and TRIPLE it.
.
He wasn't even in the same COUNTY as any of the notes he was trying to find,
yet he was so SO joyful, SO oblivious and SO physically and emotionally
enthusiastic in his presentation that the crowd, which had at first greeted his
efforts with boos and jeering and howls of derisive laughter, ended up on its
feet cheering and applauding and calling for encore after encore.
.
He had found his bliss-filled karaoke nirvana.
.
Even I would have gone back to see him weekly if they had been able to book
him as an act.
.
.
.
I can STILL hear (and see) his Elvis songs and his rendition of "Born ro be Wild".
.
.
.
And it STILL makes me smile... ... ... ... ... ... and damn near start spontaneouly
applauding.

(30,885 posts)Yesterday was brutal. Ten o'clock yesterday morning I was walking through the house and could see my breath. Last year I lived in a house with double-pane glass and forced air heating / central air conditioning. Things have changed.
