2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees announced
The new class of inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been announced, and it includes rockers, the Queen of Disco, a group of hip hop pioneers and a band whose fans have long been clamoring for the honor.
In the performer category, Heart, Albert King, Randy Newman, Public Enemy, Rush and Donna Summer will receive the prestigious induction. Lou Adler and Quincy Jones will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award, which is given to non-performers.
A few of those selected to be part of the 2013 group had been nominated before, but none have had the fan support for entry into the hallowed Hall of Fame as first time nominees Rush. The band had been eligible for nomination for the past 14 years.
Member Alex Lifeson told CNN after the group was nominated back in October that the honor meant a great deal to his group's fan base.
"For our fans, it's very, very important, and we feel great for them," he said. "We're at the next stage and we'll see if we're actually inducted. If so, we'll support it in every way we can for our fans." Read More:

(12,723 posts)I even like Rush but know this is horseshit of the purest grade.

(95,337 posts)and so does the Band.
Rush (the band) fans are hardcore and have been petitioning this for years. Plus Rush is still touring and filling out the big arenas whereas Yes & Jethro Tull do still tour but mainly at smaller capacity arenas.
But I still think Yes, Jethro Tull AND King Crimson should be in there!

(12,723 posts)as to rabidity, I have a friend who is a Yes fan. They can be quite something but I believe their number is few (relatively). Same for KC of course.
But Jethro Tull, a band that has easily five songs that are staples of classic rock puzzles me by their exclusion. I feel it is because there are 30 plus odd men and at least one woman who have been members of Tull so who do you induct? Just be a damned shame if Anderson and Barre get shafted just because they have had a few different band mates over the course of 40+ years.

(38,553 posts)I think their numbers were much greater even just 5 years ago, but w/ Wakey and Anderson gone, fans are less enthusiastic.
Plus, the quality of their performances has gone drastically downhill. It's like they don't even want to rehearse anymore.

(12,132 posts)and I doubt I would go see them without him.
I've never even seen KC advertised on tour and I have been going to concerts since the early 80s. If I'da hadda chance, I'da gone.
Although KC should be in even if just for Fripp's record label, Discipline Global Mobile...
from wiki:
DGM's mission statement consists of five "DGM business aims", which include the following three:
firstly, "to help bring music into the world which would otherwise be unlikely" to be released unless "under conditions prejudicial to the music and/or musicians",
secondly, "to operate in the market place, while being free of the values of the market place", and
lastly, "to be a model of ethical business in an industry founded on exploitation, oiled by deceit, riven with theft and fueled by greed."
These aims were called "exemplary" by Martin, who wrote that "Fripp has done something very important for the possibilities of experimental music" in creating DGM, and that DGM "has played a major role in creating favorable conditions for" King Crimson.
John Paul Jones released his 2 solo albums, "Zooma" and "The Thunderthief" on DGM and had this to say:
On top of all the great music King Crimson has brought us, they have gone out of their way to help other artists realize their dreams as well.
Yes was a brilliant band, but had too much mundane filler on their records. King Crimson should go in...
all that said, I don't give a crap about the RnR HOF...the music i love isn't validated by it one iota.

(38,553 posts)but Going for the One and Fragile were brilliant and didn't have a lot of fluff

(285 posts)I grew up enjoying them, and have many friends who still see them live. I saw them at the new Barclay's center here in Brooklyn. And they still give a fantastic show.
