but that is not a unanimous opinion here in the Lounge. I was drawn more into the story than I was for Lord of the RIngs and I loved Lord of the Rings. I am irritated that I'll have to wait at least 2 years to see the rest of it though.

eta: I saw the 2D version. My wife can't see 3D and 3d gives me a headache so we always skip those. It looked fine to me in 2D (though I have nothing to compare it with).

I enjoyed it to the degree I did simply because I resolved to take it on its own merits rather than compare it to the novel -- which has problems of its own, of course.

The film should have been called Samurai Gandalf and the Ninja Dwarves (Oh, and This Dude Named Bilbo. . .).

The cleverness of Bilbo was key in the book and is pretty much non-existent in the film because every problem is resolved with an action sequence, and long (horribly, excruciatingly, ridiculously long) segments are just idiotic CGI Super Mario Brothers videogame bullshit.

OTOH, Martin Freeman is excellent. Fabulous casting.

I'm not a fan of Tolkien's writing style, so I've never read any of the books. But we're both in agreement that in order to truly put any book to the screen, it needs to be at least six hours long. So, we're getting a trilogy of one book

I really liked the wizard Radagast, probably because he's so eccentric!

Oh, and we're not fans of 3D, so POV for us (Plain, Ordinary Vision)

I saw it in 3D with my daughter who saw it the first time in 2D. If you liked the LOTR movies, you will probably like this one.
