(68,644 posts)I remember getting off a train on a trip in from LA and my eyes burning!
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)We still have smog, but not so much in the winter, when the wind blows it away, or the rain washes it out.
It has been very windy and showery recently.
The eye-burning days are mostly over.

(50,566 posts)them in football. There was visible smog in the stadium -- the fans on the other side of it were obscured. It really grossed me out.

(149,619 posts)It was really my last chance before the NEXT surgery, next week!
And I am feeling better...
The wind was ferocious! I wore my coat that we bought to wear in Iceland, and it kept me warm!

(9,899 posts)Really nice work. Were you at that hilltop park near Ladera Heights?
BTW Alley freaked just now when I told her about you hurting yourself.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)There's a big park up off La Cienega, named for Kenny Hahn. It has this fabulous view out over the basin, as you see. I've taken many pics there...I"m not sure if that's the same one you were thinking of. It's in the Baldwin Hills.
There were other photographers there today, too. There almost always are.
Hi to you and Alley! Be glad you can't see my face! Today, a bruise on my chin showed up.

(6,112 posts)Have only been there 3 times, always in the summer, and back 30 years or so.
Had no idea the sky could be so blue!
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)Thank you for your kind comments!
I was hoping that the mountains behind the downtown would be visible; Mt. Baldy is spectacular covered with snow.
But alas, the clouds covered it...
Well, as to the color......photoshop just might have had something to do with it...but it nearly was that blue!

(118,282 posts)I feel for all you folk who don't have our mild Southern weathers
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)Ha! There is ZERO snow down here in the LA basin, silly! It's way too warm, even in the winter, for that.
There might be snowplows up in the mountains...
I've never been up there!

(118,282 posts)Oh, wait ... I guess thatwas in 1932
Well, now and then, everybody gets confused about what year it is
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)Just not down here in the basin...

(10,418 posts)Kinda looks that way, but I can't say for sure. They are beautiful.

(149,619 posts)I did use a slightly different angle, and both pictures were cropped.
Glad you enjoyed looking at them!

(10,418 posts)That was a good day. It would be nice to go there again. Jen's favorite city is New York. She wants to go there with me. I don't care for it particularly. I like socal a lot better. Maybe if I agree to go up to New York with her, the next time we'll go to L.A. It would be good to see you again.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)And remember, we have a nice guest room!
We would love to see you again, and to meet Jen, if I haven't gotten to do that yet.
Maybe if you show her these pics, she might be more willing to visit.......

(2,500 posts)I lived in Hawthorne in the early 70s. Sometimes on a weekend, I remember clear days like that. It's a beautiful place to live, if you ask me. I wish I could have stayed forever, but I just did my Air Force stint and had to leave afterwards.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)Hawthorne is a nice town. I was always charmed at their having a little airport...
The clear days are more common now...
I LOVE living here! The beach is also beautiful, esp. with the view of Catalina off the coast.
I'm glad you enjoyed these...

(28,394 posts)I never realized that there were mountains in the LA skyline! Thanks so much!
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)Mountains ring the whole basin, except on the west, LOL!
These are the San Gabriels, and Mt. Baldy is the highest at 10,000 feet.
Glad you enjoyed my pictures, sweetie!

(19,089 posts)It was one of the worst, most smoggiest, haze obscured locales in Southern California ...
But, for about 4 months of the year, it is one of the most gorgeous valleys in the whole of the Southwest ...
As pretty as it was in winter, it is simply awful during the rest of the year .... 8 months of hell ...
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)It still has terrible air, but due to the rules on smog abatement, it is better than it used to be.
It's also becoming more Democratic, due to large numbers of Hispanics moving in, and getting involved.

(7,952 posts)Thanks for sharing. It looks like a great place to live. I've visited SoCal twice and enjoyed every minute. Today it's actually 66 degrees out (finally melting the big snow we got right after Christmas) but alas, winter makes it's return next week.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)I have more than a few friends in Ohio.....it's a beautiful state too!
California is a great place to live, if you can afford it, and if the traffic doesn't make you crazy...
I'm glad you enjoyed my pictures!

(53,410 posts)Wow! Not for the snow, but that you can actually see them!
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)It IS snow! We normally can see the mountains, except on very smoggy days or when there are many many clouds.
I feel very lucky that we have such a beautiful view...
lunatica
(53,410 posts)When I went there back in the 20th Century I could barely make out the Hollywood sign on the hillside. I'm glad to see they've done something about the smog.

(3,998 posts)In our local mts. We had a cabin on Mt Baldy when I was little. We also get snow on Mt Wilson right above Pasadena. I just can't believe how cold it is here lately! It is a nice break from the boring heat we are stuck with the rest of the year.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)We sure do get snow, and when we do, it's glorious...Lucky you with a cabin on Mt. Baldy.
Thanks for coming by, and I hope you enjoyed the pictures...

(20,776 posts)Did California used to be warmer in the Winter? Now it seems a bit colder at night. I run my space heater, wear a blanket on my legs when sitting at my computer.. I remember when we used to go to beach, during January and February (When it wasn't raining.) Now its hard not to wear sweat pants and sweat hoodies. I think things have changed over the last few years.
We were never warm like Florida, but it was never this cold either.
Nice Pics by the way...
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)Actually, our nights aren't usually this cold...I think!
You went to the beach???
Edit: Glad you liked the pics!
AsahinaKimi
(20,776 posts)when it wasn't raining. It was always lovely there. Now, here not so much in SF. Its way too cold, and the fog just makes it miserable.
Huntington Beach, CA.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,619 posts)Huntington Beach is further south, and so of course, much warmer...I can see being out there in the winter.
Lovely picture!
