The Social Dilemma still my issue for over 30 years

I've never been a "mean girl". I don't like making people feel bad at all let alone for no reason. I don't want people to feel alone or like outcasts. There are times that I have felt lonely or like an outcast. Other times, I have been a bit more popular and experienced this dilemma: Do you associate with the "popular" (that is socially strong) people who like you or do you associate with 'outcasts' (that is socially weak) people like you more? I regret distancing myself from less "popular" friends throughout school in order to associate with socially stronger individuals. I realized tonight that I am finding myself in that same situation again as an adult at work and I feel rather torn about it.

There are younger teachers who act like they are still in high school though. Old habits die hard, I guess.

My position puts me into contact with almost everyone who I try to be pleasant to. This week , I started on the main shift in a position with more responsibilities. I am noticing clichés or factions. If I don't eat lunch with others, they will think that I am stuck up or anti social. I am trying to rotate right now, but feel like I will have to choose so to speak. I know this is so middle school.
