(28,941 posts)Owner of five who are giving me the stink eye right now.
Hi Sarge,
Wow, you have five? I'm afraid if I got one my cat would have it dead within 1 minute. These cats must all be declawed. I was doing some research and it said a cat scratch to a bird is very very dangerous. Do you have a cat or cats? I soooooooooo want a bird, I would start out with a parekeet though I think.
Peace

(28,941 posts)No cats or dogs. Neither of us are cat people and a dog would freak out the four year olds. You can have a cat and bird together, but one of them has to be in the slam when the other is out. Now it's not that uncommon for a cat and a parrot to be buddies, but I wouldn't take the risk, especially with a smaller bird. That maniacal keet in that video is living on borrowed time.
Keets are a good starter bird. If you looking for a pal, I'd recommend a hand raised one. They're hand fed by a person, starting when they're chicks, and they bond to people. A hand raised keet tends to be less suicidal. If you're not interested in having a keet permanently attached to you, get two hens and a large cage. Parrots are very social and active. They need companionship and activity. One keet permanently locked up in a small cage is a sad sight.
If you have any questions, please PM me.
