I had been contemplating buying a pair of the espadrilles for summer, until I saw the big ol' "TOMS" label on the heel. I don't mind the small TOMS flap on the front part of the shoe, but why do companies feel the need to slap a HUGE label on their items? Especially ones that really jar, visually, with the rest of the shoe?
I appreciate what the company does, but I figure buying a pair of their shoes is enough - I hate being a walking billboard. If I could get that damn label off, I'd buy a pair or two (maybe; only if they're comfortable).

(13,661 posts)The idea behind the company is that for every pair you buy, they'll donate a pair to a child that has no shoes:
In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and staff later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by TOMS customers.

So, I may just be cranky about the label - but really, one ad per shoe is enough, I think.

(21,865 posts)If you have a slim exacto blade (or seam picker if you are a sewer) you can carefully cut/pick the stiches and get the label off.
I know what you mean about the label, but I am usually wearing jeans or pants of some sort so I think the label is covered up most of the time anyway. It doesn't bother me. But, of course, depending on what color/style you get sometimes the label is more obvious than others.
I love the black crocheted ones.

(13,661 posts)There is a cute pair of black woven wedge espadrilles; I wear a lot of skirts in the summer and didn't want "TOMS" blaring off the back of my feet.
Have several exacto blades at the office. That should work nicely.
