The building is held down by thick steel cables anchored in the rock. There was a post office up there also.
A guy used to give a daily weather report from the observatory building with his cat on his lap as I recall.

I hiked up a trail called Tuckerman Ravine. The was a sign at the trail head warning that you can die
of exposure here EVEN IN THE SUMMER. 8.5 miles and about 4000 ft elevation.

Watch two guys fly their hang gliders off and fly over to some ski slopes across the valley.

There is also a small Gage cog railroad and a regular vehicle roadway to the top
to the top.

I actually did not pay attention to the sign at the bottom. It was a good thing, LOL. I may not have climbed!

Read it at the top and said Yikes! It was a pretty long list of those that died over the years.

It felt like it was nipping at our heals. The last part of the climb was a bit frightening.

Stimulating yes, however you must always respect the power of nature and the whim of the weather.

However even if you climb in the summer...make sure you carry warm clothes too!

The weather can turn on a dime!

a couple of summers I drove the hiker shuttle from trail head to trail head dropping off and picking up hikers. I'd put in 250 miles per day driving from Pinkham Notch to Crawford u[ 16 and down 302. Awesome job!
