Now that we know the truth about Andy, Opie, and Gomer....
What do you think? The Cartwrights were such upstanding leaders and landowners in their community. Very wealthy and powerful though they held no official political office. Would Pa have been a Dem or a Repub?
What about Dick Van Dyke (or Rob Petrie)?

(5,946 posts)If I were romantically involved with Ben Cartwright, I would be dead within the hour.
DVD was in Westchester which I believe is a blue area, Cartwright was in a red state.

(37,648 posts)Compassionate, for a Republican, but still a Republican. Independent, live off the land, take care of yourself, personal responsibility, govt stay out of his business, low taxes. But still compassionate about those in need, and would give to charities, help others out, and such.
Or are you asking about Lorne Greene, the actor who played Pa?

(11,464 posts)Lorne himself was from Canada. Therefore his health care system is better than ours.
I suspect he would have been a Pierre Trudeau fan.
Would think Ben Cartwright was less a gunslinger than others out there, but politics?
I don't know
The Mitchells of Dennis the Menace-democrats
Mr. Wilson-Major Democrat and environmentalist big time
(Dennis himself in real life is a republican I have read)
Ward Cleaver-I would think liberal.
Fred Rutherford(Lumpy's Dad-conservative)
Maxwell Smart-???
Lucy-radical liberal
Ricky-?
Fred-deep down inside, maybe he wasn't a republican
Ethel-don't know if she would be political
Edith Bunker-liberal but she couldn't show it
Archie-ultra conservative, bigot
Carroll O'Connor-one of the biggest liberals in Hollywood, ever. What a fantastic job of acting he did.
How about the folks on Gilligan's Island?
Gilligan and the skipper- apolitical
Mr.Howell, it goes without saying
The Professor?
of course, Mike Brady would be an ultra liberal.
Perry Mason-ultra liberal as was Raymond Burr
Superman-liberal
The 2 part Mole Man episode(pilot) was a parable on racism, and Superman sided with the people from the center of the earth. I have never forgotten that.

That's him. Right?
I think the Cartwrights treated Hop Sing pretty well.
I suspect him of being a liberal.
As for your other observations, man, I love what you said. Gonna look at each and think 'em over before I reply.

(38,958 posts)where would he fall in your evaluation?

(11,464 posts)Roy Rogers the character would be liberal
Gene Autry conservative
Hoppy Boyd liberal
I would say most of the tv cowboy heroes (that were just cowboy stars) be to the left and no, not libertarian
btw
Jack Webb on Dragnet-liberal, the show which I watch on AntennaTv is suprisingly liberal all things considered. A real curio for the times.
Henry Morgan-moderate republican on Dragnet, changed to moderate democratic on MASH

(11,464 posts)now, what about our cartoon friends?
Bullwinkle & Rocky- ultra liberals
Bugs Bunny-liberal
Elmer Fudd-NRA poster boy
Coyote-ultra conservative (all braun, no brains)
Road Runner-ultra liberal (all brains)
Grandma of Tweety and Sylvester- as she had a cat and a bird, and loved both of them, ultra liberal (Sylvester was only looking for a little love, and tried to not let his instincts get in the way, mostly failed, but good natured to a point)
Charlie Brown-liberal in a very major though cunning way. Charlie Brown is the leader, though he let's everyone think they are better than him. Charlie Brown gets the others to see it all his way, in effect, they are the village that makes Charlie Brown get what he wanted in the first place, but they would never admit that what Charlie wants is what they want.
So he twists it to make them think it was their idea not his.
But it was his.
And when Lucy doesn't let him kick the ball, he is doing the rope-a-dope, and Lucy is the one that falls for it each time.
After all, without Charlie Brown there is NO Peanuts. But Charlie let's Lucy get happy
Lucy-hard right. Gets thrills off of bully Charlie(or thinking she is)
Peppermint Patty-uber liberal
Snoopy-pampered LOL baby boomer liberal(food food food gimme more more more) LOL
Woodstock-well anyone named Woodstock gotta be a liberal

(3,502 posts)He was all about private property. He often had to resort to violence to protect the Ponderosa. But he was also in favor of justice, was not in favor of bigotry and except for the suspicious fact that all his wives died was very upstanding. I think he'd have been a Republican who was driven out of the party by Teabaggers. Adam was a bleeding heart liberal despite the occasional need to shoot someone dead. He was the iconoclast of the family. Also he was the only one who got it together to go off and live like an adult instead like a teenager in his father's home. Hoss would have been somewhat apolitical, but if he gave politics any thought he'd have been a Democrat. Little Joe was a good looking dolt who'd belong to any party that an attractive woman wanted him to, until she was umasked as a conwoman or, even more likely, unfortunately died.
