A guy left glass bottles of milk in a metal box next to the back door.
A loaf of bread cost 25 cents and a simple calculator cost $100.
You could burn leaves in the street in the fall.
We got a morning and an evening newspaper.
We dressed up to go shopping downtown.

Coke made with sugar wasn't something special that you could only get from Mexico.

If you needed to look something up you got down the encyclopedia or the dictionary or went to the library.

I remember purple 4 cent stamps with Lincoln on them.
I remember Big Bonus stamps (like S&H only pink).

I remember real department stores with quality USA made clothing, like Sakowitz Brothers, Battelstein's, Frost Brothers, and Foley's. The only really good quality dept. store left is Neiman-Marcus.Beautiful stores with lots of space.

We got a Zenith color TV in '64 and that was hot stuff. Watched The Flintstones and Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color and Bonanza and The Jack Paar Show in color.

It was a console with record player on the
left side, TV in the middle, AM/FM radio on the right side.

My folks and sister drove GM products. We wouldn't be caught dead in a Ford or Chrysler--those were lousy cars. Dad drove Cadillacs and my sister the hot rodder had a GTO and later a 66 Sting Ray convertible. 427 cubes. Beautiful car. she and dad and her boyfriends took the block out and shaved the heads to increase the HP from 390 to 410.

And she'd pick me up from high school and the other kids wondered what that little nerd with glasses that actually studied was doing getting in that fine hot rod that her big sister drove.
