It's 12 hours late. It was supposed to be breezy flurries this morning, windy showers this afternoon and then onto windy snow. Or something like that, although as of last evening the local newspaper gave up on any actual forecast and just predicted "Weather" as in "We're going to have weather." I'm not making this up. That is how they forecast weather in Maine.
Anyway, what we got was a couple lazy, fat snowflakes this morning followed by hours of empty, gray stillness. I wasn't feeling great, so went back to bed and took a nap. For some reason, naps sometimes give me gas, so when I woke up crampy, I hung around waiting. What I thought would be an explosion of gas turned into dire rear. Uh-oh.
I started feeling a little less exhausted, so got going on some chores. Headed out to do my food shopping, I wasn't sure weather to do "regular" food shopping or "emergency, blizzard warning milk, bread and eggs" food shopping. I opted for regular shopping.
By the time I finished shopping, the temps were plummeting, the winds were gusting and there was horizontal snow. By the time I got home, there was horizontal snow in every direction. That's something I don't get about nor'easters. If I face west, I see horizontal snow blowing from ne toward sw. If I face south, I see horizontal snow blowing from sw to ne. Turn slightly, and I see horizontal snow blowing from sw to nw. No matter which way I face, I get a face-full of wind and snow.
Also, I don't know what Pennslywhathisname the groundhog saw on Feb 2, but I'm pretty sure that Maine's groundhog saw his shadow and we're getting 6 more months of winter.
I'm thinking I should have followed Lance the postal worker's winter storm shopping list, which is the "3 Bs" as in bacon, beer and bread.

(14,881 posts)I'm feeling much better and it is beautiful out. The blizzard a few weeks back left us with snow way too deep for walking in, but the subsequent thaws packed it down making it very walkable. The temps are warm enough to be comfortable for walking and playing outside.
The snow is also perfect for bringing Dahli back into training. I did ground work yesterday and this morning, to get the bugs out of her system. Depending on when the winds wind down tomorrow, I may brave a sit. : In the meantime, I rented a movie for tonight or tomorrow. It's all good, even 6 months of this would be good.

(28,394 posts)It has been one of the crappiest winters I remember in a long time. We didn't have any huge blizzards, but it snows (or rains or both) every damn day. It's just dragging on and on and on..... Not even a January thaw this year.
