Crimson flames tied through my ears
Throwin' high and mighty traps
Countless fire and flaming road
Using ideas as my maps
"We'll meet on edges, soon," said I
Proud 'neath heated brow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
"Rip down all hate," I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull, I dreamed
Romantic flanks of musketeers
Foundation deep, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
My pathway led by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now
My guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

(12,132 posts)for all the great music coming out every day.
I suppose you could make the case that you shouldn't have to look for it because great music should get airplay (like it did in the 60s?) but then that's really a radio problem, not a music problem. Good new music is available but shitty radio is shitty.

(13,324 posts)And even in the 80's a lot of the best stuff was more "underground" than mainstream. So I guess pop music's overall decline had already started by then.

(3,526 posts)I guess the "suits" who run the music business didn't want this record
to go over the 3 minute mark that top 40 dictated that a single would
last.
That's a shame because I love this cover.

(13,324 posts)The Dylan originals were great in their own way, but the Byrds put a whole different spin on his songs.

I loved that album, still have it. Also 'Sweetheart of the Rodeo'

Was pretty cool -- Joni couldn't remember the words, so she asked one persistent fan to come up on the stage and sing it with her.
One of Dylan's better lines, I always thought. I wonder if he stole it from someone else.
