He's a she. I only checked once, the day I found her, and thought I saw something when I was cleaning her up...the next day she got a real bath at the clinic and I mentioned I thought Beau was a boy, and the people with me seemed to agree...the vet just really looked him over quick there and told me to continue with the antbiotics...today was her first full exam. New name? I may just sstay with Beau!
Sam weighed 10 ounces when I found her, and she's now a whopping two pounds and 6 ounces!

(58,179 posts)We got this absolutely adorable Abyssinian kitten, and the vet told us it was a he, so I named him Miles...and then he had five kittens.
Wonderful cat. Lived 23 years.
P.S. Squeeeeee!

(21,484 posts)Our Skittles had a litter four years ago, and being fans of "Grey's Anatomy," we named the kittens after characters. We named a dark tabby with white patches George, for George O'Malley. Then we learned he was a she. We didn't want a girl named George, so her name is O'Malley.
You are a fabulous person for adopting these kittens.

(56,177 posts)Yeah, I've called her Beau for 3 weeks now...it's kind of sticking.

(17,217 posts)then one morning i saw SALLY on our bed licking her little wiener.
WE HAVE 4 GIRLS AND 1 BOY.
The boy is still named SALLY.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)And I'm sure Sally could care less about his name!
tabbycat31
(6,336 posts)He was originally named Tabitha, and then the vet looked at him and said "You're going to be a big boy!" and my aunt and I looked at each other and said "boy?"
Tabitha was changed to Tabby, and usually he was just Tab.

(3,065 posts)why people give their cats names. It's not like they come when you call them. I mean, most of the time they call you. I've always named my felines something like "Gato" (cat) or "MC" for My Cat.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)He's part Main Coon, I think, and that may have something to do with it.
Callmecrazy
(3,065 posts)But his name was Cumere. And you had to say it three times fast.
Like I said, I keep it simple.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Never had one before...he was a 4-week rescue also, so I can't be sure of his background, but he does resemble one.
Oh edit, NOW I get it...I'm slow today!

(9,808 posts)Whether they came when called was totally based on personality, but every cat I've ever had will at least respond to their names. (Either by turning their heads or perking up ears or something.)

(21,046 posts)Had 3 in one litter, named 'em Arabella (after the Strauss opera), Tosca (after the Puccini opera) and Faust (after the Gounod opera).
Turned out they are all boys. Arabella is now called "yellow kitty" and Tosca is now called "Light gray kitty".
Maybe we should change it to "Arabella Fonte"
At least their uncle Figaro (B&W) is a boy.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)However, now Ashley is mainly a girl's name...so people assume he's a she!
I like Figaro...that seems very appropriate for a cat's name.
Manifestor_of_Light
(21,046 posts)Ashley was such a wimpy role, so it did not really show off his skills.
Didja know: After Leslie made The Petrified Forest, with Humphrey Bogart, he was such good friends with Bogart that Bogart named his daughter Leslie Howard Bogart??

(21,046 posts)Also, my ringtone is the Overture to The Marriage of Figaro.
I LOVE Mozart operas!! Don Giovanni is the best opera ever written.
The Marriage of Figaro is second and The Magic Flute is third.
Wagner, feh!! Small doses only.

(14,881 posts)I had her pulled by a rescuer from death row in a Georgia shelter.
The vet called me when he flipped her over to spay her, she was a he so he neutered him instead.
Luna was on all the paperwork and I'd been calling him Luna for weeks, so the name stuck.
Then he arrived, and he was a little wheaten colored dog with black mask and amber eyes, and a high-pitched shriek of a bay. Mostly rhodesian ridgeback
So I mostly call him Luna, but also Looney and Looney-tune. My vet up here still calls him "she."
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)I know what you mean, still calling Beau a he...that will take some time.

(205,320 posts)Everybody told me it must be a boy and a woman I consulted who works with ferals told me to pick a name and start using it. So I did, but it was a boys' name, didn't find out she was a spayed female until I was able to bring her inside and take her to the vet. Then I finally found out who she'd belonged to, a neighbor who moved, so was able to find out her name and age from her medical records. Poor kitty must have been mighty confused, especially since her original name was Isiah.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)I took her straight to the vet's and they asked for a name, assuming she was a he, I said Sam. Guess I got them both wrong!
BarbaRosa
(2,684 posts)so I asked the Vet when I took Tige in for shots. The Vet said I had a 'ball bearing mousetrap'.

(56,177 posts)Kittens are tough to determine...usually, though, you think they're female, but they turn out male because their "equipment" is so small at that age!
