Had an IT friend (Coffee Mooch) take a look and it is not with my computer. So I am baffled.

I wonder if it's got something to do with your particular computer.

Second, have you tried changing the settings, classic vs standard, etc., in you settings?

Here's link to your settings: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=myaccount

Also, see if it's the same way after you log out.

I am at a loss. So is Skinner.

Still nothing.

Those were the first things my IT friend said to check.

But another post was saying something about other are having problems. So maybe it is the DU site after all?

I don't usually click on videos, but I did watch the one of the bulldog daddy and puppy tonight with no problems.

I have been having a heck of a time at Hulu though. If I turn off the modem for a little while, sometimes I can get Hulu to show up better. Maybe that would work for you?

Oh.... I did read recently that the latest version of Firefox was slow. I usually get Hulu better on Safari. I am using Firefox on DU though.

I can post and others see it but me. I have to go strait to the site, be it Hulu or YouTube or wherever.

And I use Window Internet Explorer 10 and Firefox. The same problem with both. And I had my laptop checked by a IT person. He says it is fine, he can't figure out any problems with my computer. He said that it might just be the site. Skinner checked and it was not DU. So I am at a big loss.

I (and several others here) have had the identical problem.

Embedded vimeo videos here are okay--it's just the youtube ones that are a problem.

And MFM and a couple of others have mentioned experiencing the same problem.

There are a few videos that won't play because they want me with download adobe adware and persistent storage and crap, but most videos play fine.

Makes me wonder if you've got some kind of malware, especially if it's a windows machine.

Try malwarebytes, the free download.

but every now and then I get a black box and a message that my flash player is out of date or something and then I can't ever get the update to finish loading and I may spend half a freaking day trying to solve it, to eventually losing the link to whatever it was. there was one today but I don't even remember who posted it or what forum.

pisses me off because I wonder what I missed.

Just a black box and only on DU. I can go to properties, find the link, google it,and go there to see it. I just can not see it on DU. Even if it is in my post.

I did see your post in ATA, seems an odd problem for sure! Kind of surprised some of the computer whiz types haven;t offered some ideas. Maybe they aren't here - kick things again tomorrow (and maybe even cross-post to the computer group)

Even had an IT friend look at it. He builds computers, designs software, the works. (Best neighbor I have had yet!)

He took Phoenix (yes, my computer has a name and it is a he) and gave him a full diagnostic checkup. Cleaned him, made sure all updates were in, the works.

Still nothing.

But then I can click on the YouTube logo on the bottom right, and watch the video on the YouTube site rather than in a window on DU.

Every so often there is some upgrade that totally messes up videos here. Usually that means the upgrade is waiting for me to reboot my computer for it to finish installing. For a while I wasn't rebooting my computer very often. now I try to do it at least once a week. Most of those problems (with upgrades) have gone away since them.

No youtube logo or anything else visible on it, and nothing clickable.

Some reported onset Wednesday night; others of us began experiencing it early Thursday morning.

The only change to my system before onset was that I'd received a series of Windows Updates shortly beore the problem occurred, but I have no idea whether or not there's any connection.
