I think I may have sounded like I was minimizing it..... I apologize for that.

I would miss birdsong and other sounds of Nature as well. It must be very hard....

I've interpreted many a phone call. I think the people who have the hardest time are the ones who had hearing but lost it. Those born Deaf have to deal with a Hearing society, yes, but don't have the sense of loss added on to it. People with Deaf families, who grow up with language (ASL) are the most fortunate.

15. Don't worry. I was impressed with what you do.

My hearing loss is due (in part) to my time as the manager of a Carvel Ice Cream store on the Thruway. It was a very small place. Most of the time when one of the ice cream machines would start-up ... there was a very high pitched scream. I had no idea how bad hearing that 10 to 15 hours a day would hurt my ability to hear later in my life.

On the plus side ...
when I don't want to hear everything, I leave my hearing aides out or turned way down.
