Took a quick drive out to Deep Cove this evening. Deep Cove is a small bay / community on the far east side of North Vancouver in Vancouver. First time I've been out of the house again in a week or more due to depression, need to change that But it was a nice night to get out for a stroll. Deep Cove is about a 5 min drive from my house, it's become a rich community over the years (hell most of Vancouver is now a rich community in many ways, though not us), but it's also a nice place to stroll around and go out for a summer picnic and walk. Right down by the bay itself is a small marina and a grouping of small stores, most of these are art galleries, ice cream shops and a nice restaurant or two:
However people mainly come here for the park down by the water for a picnic or stroll along the marina. Or the rent kayaks and paddle up the inlet:
Here's a quick vid I took from a park bench down by the water:
I overheard someone talking about one of the houses out at the point in the vid, apparent he has his own private escalator down to the ocean, lol. At the end of the vid you can see a few people down on the beach, one of them was a real older hippy type smoking some weed. Kind of Vancouver in one pan here. Beauty, Nature, Wealth and Extravagance, along side liberal hippie culture. I imagine some of California to be similar.

(34,136 posts)Do you ever get to Vancouver Island? In the 1890s my great-great-grandfather owned a sawmill there on what is now called Genoa Bay. The sawmill was still standing in the mid 1930s when my great grandparents visited, but it burned down in the 40s.

(6,154 posts)It's a short 1 1/2 hour ferry ride across the strait but the last time I was on the island was years ago. It's a pretty place but I don't find there is a lot to do there, at least if you are a Vancouverite.

(34,136 posts)I'd probably go birdwatching if it's a good spot, but other than family history, I have no reason to visit.
