The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHoliday Week is a slow week in clinic. Pop in and say 'hi.'
If I don't reply right away, I'm with a patient. But it would be nice to have some company to keep from getting bored.
Loungers!

(149,659 posts)Here's my hello...I hope things have picked up just a bit for you!
I would be out taking pictures of the lovely Italian landscape, but my gut is unhappy with something I ate yesterday...
So I'm staying in, and waiting for things to get better!

(6,581 posts)Aristus, my friend, and to you Peggy my dear!
I'm doing another one of my most hated tasks, a probate/trust accounting. It must be Karma's revenge for the fact that I flunked basic accounting in the first go around at college - pretty easy to flunk a class when you stop going. In my defense, it was a "herd" class of like 500 students, with videotaped lectures, and I was assigned a foreign TA who had been off the plane from China, literally, three days when the class started. I couldn't understand a word he said. So, I just gave up. Karma kicked me once in the pants on that one, I repeated it years later when I went back to college, and got a 4.0 in it, but I still hate accounting.
So, as you can see, kind of slacking on DU today. Won't get it done any faster, LOL.

(6,581 posts)Appointment this afternoon. And then the 4 day weekend, unless my boss changes his mind at the last minute (he's prone to doing that! ) Just gotta get through tomorrow.
And maybe buckle down and get this thing done, the client is breathing down our necks, can't understand why it wasn't done yesterday.
Hope he's not a DU Lounger!
Oh, and I'm having a Goo Goo Dolls marathon in my left ear via bluetooth. Listening to 'Something for the Rest of Us' right now, then I think I'll move on to either 'Gutterflower' or 'Superstar Car Wash'.
As I drive to my appointment, it may be something very different, like a Brad Paisley or Rascal Flatts marathon.

(28,941 posts)Computer is in the shop for its annual physical; I'm using my Kindle as a surf board. Cool and rainy here, so do a couple of chores, then then kick back with a new book, A History of World Languages, cuppa tea and Wolfgang. Life is good.

(28,941 posts)It's called Empires of the Word, A Language History of the World by Nicholas Ostler. It is a Kindle ebook.

(14,627 posts)I love history also. I'm currently reading The Sunne in Splendour by Sharon Kay Penman. It's an historical novel about the life of King Richard III.

(28,941 posts)Have you read any of Anya Seton' s historicals? If not, highly recommended, particularly Katherine and Green Darkness.

(66,434 posts)First two patients up for the day turned out to be emergencies. I referred them on to the local ED's. But I've just now had a chance to catch my breath, and say 'thank you' for replying.
Good to see you, sarge!

(28,941 posts)What is ED? Emergency doctor?
Aristus
(66,434 posts)You pretty much only hear 'ER' on TV. Real-life providers say 'ED'.
So ER could be a left over from the days when emergency treatment and triage was confined to one or maybe two rooms. Today emergency treatment can and does take up a sizeable portion of a medical facility, ergo emergency department.

(14,627 posts)I'm working on a particularly boring task at work, so I'm popping in and out of DU today to keep from jumping out the window (my office is in a high-rise, so a window escape is not a good idea).
Ugghhh, I hate this part of my job!
Aristus
(66,434 posts)Haven't seen you in a while. I can't guarantee hanging out with me will cure your boredom, but it doesn't hurt to try.

(24,146 posts)waking up and getting ready for my last day of work before a week-long vacation. let's hope i can stay out of vacation mode long enough to get through my shift tonight.
don't get to sleep in much tomorrow, tho, gotta take the car to the trusted mechanic because the muffler shop told me everything in the car is borked up and i don't believe them. it would be easier if the second car were running, but it's not >_<
hope your day stays manageable

I'll be back on the road locally, just in the northeast.
