How do I get rid of icky smoke smell and stain in microwave?

The son overcooked some pizza bagel bites. He read instructions for a toaster oven.

Anyway, it's an awful mess. I have a smoky smell and stains in the microwave. Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

Thanks.

that a paste made up of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda will take out some pretty awful stains.

I used it on the bottom of a stainless steel pan to remove nasty burns marks. Takes a bit of rubbing, but it worked.

Just mix the two into a workable paste.

Not sure about the smell, though. Maybe the paste would work to deodorize the inside? Or perhaps if you put a dish of ordinary white vinegar in the microwave and leave it overnight...

5. Easy and inexpensive way to deal with both the mess and the smell . . .

Put a bowl of tapwater in the microwave and let it run until the water is at a steady boil. I can't tell you how long since microwaves have different wattages. Wipe the mess away with paper towels as soon as you take the bowl out . . . don't let the steam dry. But be careful . . . don't let the steam from the bowl burn you.

I don't know if they are still available, but 'microwave oven cleaners' used to be sold in stores. In my experience, they are completely unnecessary. The steam from tap water will soften most spills so that they can be wiped away.

You may have to do this several times if the smell persists. I've always been able to clear the stench with just one steam bath.

Good luck! - FDL

That doesn't generally remove everything from my microwave, so then I carefully dip a wad of paper towels in the very hot water and use them to wipe it down.

I'll nuke something that splatters then something else so maybe it's time to put a cigar , an onion and a piece of foul meat on a plate then set the timer for 5 minutes so the fowl smells cancel each other . NAW !!!!! there has to be hints in the manual we tossed out 4 years ago .

9. Pour about 1/4 cup of vanilla in a bowl. Boil it away.

But don't burn that! That should help, but only time really. Maybe put it outdoors on a sunny day and leave the door open to the wind?

That's my wifes department,by her own choice and insistence BTW.I know she's had success with a few different methods.

Thoroughly wipes it out with vinegar soaked rag/paper towel...To me the vinegar odor is worse, but it soon dissipates, taking smoke smells with it.

Same with baking soda soaked rag.

This is a new one she recently got online somewhere,in her never ending search for better household tips...Take the used, still wet coffee grounds, filter and all.Place in bowl/on saucer, put in microwave, close door and let sit for an hour or so...It's said, she claims, that this will soak up odors much like baking soda does in refrigerators, though she has yet to test it...

Or,as I do when stinking up the microwave, leave the door open all day and air it out, though that may prompt your "other",as it does mine,to refer to you lazy or slob,if not both...

11. For the smell, just unplug it and leave the door open a few hours

or overnight.

For the stains, I use the boiled water method. It wipes out easily.
