RIP, Fizzgig. 2001 - 2013.

Tremendously sad tonight. My dear, beloved best friend took his final exit this evening. He was, all hyperbole aside, the most incredible friend and companion I ever had. I've never seen, before or since, a Pomeranian who would relish in spending hours chasing down his ball, frisbee or squeaky toy and prance his way back to me... only to play the age-old dog game of "drop it? hahaha! not today, old man!" He was freakishly smart (whenever he was asked "Fizzy, where's your toy? He would bound off to one corner of the house or another, and always came back toy in mouth, having known exactly where he had left it. He alao had a knack for opening any doors he wanted to see the other side of.)
Even though I had known the decision was imminent, it still hurt me to the core to tell the vet "I guess it's time." Even though he was very small, all things considered, the house - hell, the family - will feel infinitely more empty without him. Our oldest boy (all of 16 years old) handled Fizzgigs declining years with a grace and patience rarely seen in many adults. I guess that may be the biggest legacy my sweet little buddy could have left me.. the knowledge that, despite our many shortcomings, my wife and I have raised an incredible young man as well.
Rest easy, furball. And know that you were cherished and loved.

14. Yes, you will

I've been through it a couple of times with beloved kitties and I wonder each time why I put myself through it but then I someone else who needs to be rescued. I know how tough it is but hopefully before long happy memories will replace the pain.

9. Sorry to hear of your loss.

I usually don't come in these threads because I am wimp and end up crying, but I kinda know you, so I wanted to express my sympathy. It is difficult to lose a loved one, of any species. He got to live in love and that is the best thing for him and your family.

Condolences.

Work sucked ass all day knowing what was coming, and it'll suck tomorrow when the slack time hits and I'm sitting around with nothing to do... but I know it'll be better, and to be honest, it's kinda comforting to know that I can still feel this, ya know?

18. My sincerest condolences. It is NEVER easy.

My family has owned a couple dozen animals, when all the pets owned by us kids as grownups and all the dogs we had as children are counted, it has to be well over 20.. Currently only my oldest brother and my mom have dogs - 4 Vizslas owned by my brother and a Dachshund owning my mom (!).

So that is roughly 17 or 18 family pets that have been put down or passed away, in one fashion or another in my 54 years.

It's never easy.

I dug the grave for Mr. BB before I took him to the vet. Needless to say the bottom of it was wet when I took him on his final "bye bye" (as in "wanna go bye bye?"

You cry. And then you laugh as you remember the look in his eye as he says to you, now from a wonderful place - your mind and memory - "NOT TODAY, OLD MAN!"

And then you cry some more. And soon it will be less and the smiles and laughter and chuckles from the memories become the norm.

And that's how Mr. BB would want it.

And that's how Fizzy would want it.

And that's how it will be with you.

It's been 9 years since I last saw my bestest bud. I still miss him every day. And I still tear up thinking about him ( I am right now, fer cryin' out loud!) but that changes so quickly to a smile because I have so many fond memories of him, from him falling asleep on my lap riding my Harley Softail through the Poconos to him tearing to shreds any cardboard box you would let him have, to his wonderful yodeling he would do when he was happy to see someone - anyone.

Fizzy will never leave you. Just as BB is right here. I just can't touch him anymore.

THAT'S the hardest part.

All my best for you in this difficult time.

RIP Fizzy and BB. May you both find that eternal sunbeam to snooze in.

And yes, he has his wrist in his mouth. I called it 'sucking his thumb'. He did it since he was a pup. That shot was taken about a year before he passed away.

44. Comforting thoughts to you and you family.

What an intelligent look he had in his eyes! Isn't it wonderful that we humans can share our lives with such great animals?
The dear border collie heeler that graces us with her presence turned 13 this month, and I slump at the thought of how fast they can go downhill as they get older.

You'll always remember how great a friend Fizzgig was, but don't forget this, at some point in the future~ 'cause Fizzy's spirit wants his family to pay... nay, play! all that love forward.
