Audiophiles help

I got a new TV and I want to hook a sound bar. Can I by pass the TV (mute it) and just hook up the digital audio to the sound bar from the satellite box to make it work.

For some reason the menu for the TV set doesn't have an option for external speakers, but I thought that I could just mute the TV and use the sound bar remote.

thanks for any suggestions.

Modern TVs have a setup menu where you can usually disable internal speakers. Sound on the new thin models can be quite disappointing, to say the least.

I assume the TV satellite box has standard audio outlets, so hookup should be easy. That way you only need one remote.
