To get something nice, new, and with the features you want. Maybe you can even connect it to the Internet. Then we can all know when you're running out of milk or eating too much pie.

saying you aren't allowed to put the video GPS chips in the donettes any more!

I'm going to put the donette's box in front of the TV and play a loop of Bill O'Reilly. Happy now?????

(PS. I notice Diane didn't mind about the video GPS chips till her OWN box of donettes was contaminated.)

check craigs list. I have a great chest freezer that gets so cold it freezes fresh meat perfectly I got for $80 and a kind of crappy freezer on top frost free fridge that works fine though you have to watch fresh vegs in it as they will frost if ambient temps get low, got it for $50, and it was pretty new.

here is a small new one from HD for $360 http://www.homedepot.com/p/Vissani-24-in-W-10-cu-ft-Top-Freezer-Refrigerator-in-White-HMDR1030WE/203425195?N=5yc1vZc3ns

there is a bigger hotpoint and a GE there for $550

looking there. We already did shop at our "local" appliance store, not a big name store, and that's what we're getting a 1200.00 boring model, white with no bells and whistles.

I bought a washer / dryer set for $350 with a 1 year warranty from a local place. Delivered. Both still working after 2 years.

Unless you need something fancy like ice and water in the door, I bet you can find a good used one.

It's plain white, and doesn't have any bells and whistles at all...... No water or ice dispenser, nothing extra, I hope it'll last 15 to 20 years.

when you buy an energy star appliance, as ours do. When our washing machine went kaput I looked at options, and the most energy/water efficient were expensive front-load machines. Since refrigerators use more electricity than any other appliance it might be worth it to buy an energy efficient one with a rebate, then save on your power bill from now on, as well.

just picked the cheapest model they had. Dang, thanks for the suggestion, might be to late though, I'm hoping it'll be more efficient then the one that just died. Hope it is, but thanks for the suggestion.

11. Do you have a "ding and dent" place where you live?
Tue Mar 11, 2014, 04:08 PM

You can get new appliances for almost half the price because there's a dent or a dink at the surface, and the stores can't sell them full price that way. That $900 refrigerator can be found for $450 or so in a re-seller's store.
Also, check around - model homes are "staged" with working appliances, and if the developer sells the model, you can get an almost new appliance that has never been used dirt cheap. You can usually find those on Craig'sList; they're the ads selling an entire kitchen set (dishwasher, stovetop/ovens, refrigerator, etc...) for $1000 obo.

I know Sears has a dent and ding outlet in many places; they might be willing to ship to a more local store.

I got my fridge there for 2/3 off the original price because it has a BIG dent on the side. Didn't effect the operation, just looked awful. But since my refrigerator is completely encased by the cabinetry, nobody can see the dent anyway. Its hidden.

I really recommend them.

For future reference, there are places online like repairclinic.com that might help you fix appliances. I've used them before to fix our washer and fridge.

My husband sure has to come up with something.....everything is warming up. At least we do have a littler freezer to salvage the frozen stuff....but in the refrig?? everything's going to be thrown together and we'll see what comes out. At least our cocktail fixins are ok.
