He was just in that spot where my arm cant reach him, Genest said. I threw myself on the ground, and that scared him off.
Genests mother, Paula Wright, snapped photos of the hoopla, originally posted to his Instagram feed along with his selfie.
Genest had approached the squirrel making clicking sounds with his tongue to get closer. His mother said the spectacle Saturday taught him a lesson.

including making little noises at a woodchuck in my back yard when I was a kid; he stood up and talked back.
At the beach I like to call sea gulls, the young ones seem to be fooled and look around to see who's calling.
I've read some accounts of rabid raccoons viciously attacking people, so I think I'd avoid talking to a raccoon. They are usually ill, and may react unpredictably, if seen walking around in the daytime.
Chipmunks in the Sierra Nevada, and ground squirrels in the mountains east of Los Angeles can be carriers of bubonic plague, so I'd say hello, but wouldn't want their hitchhikers (fleas) to decide I was a good ride.
