Its a rare occasion when anyone not named Axl Rose has anything nice to say about Axl Rose, but according to a mostly unscientific chart posted by travel website Concert Hotels, Axl is the greatest vocalist of all time.

Not even close, imho.

(70,711 posts)But I.m more shallow commercial. Gotta be total smash pop melody don.t care about lyrics. This was soothing, 1:39 of intro not get t ing to a hook. Really I.m really appreciative and not trying to be mean but I.m shallow.

so then, what's your favorite sappy love songs?

(70,711 posts)Not that it has impacted me like this one. If somebody can come up with ONE all out smash, they're set for life, right? But the other day a local radio yakker said a musician friend told him the whole career strategy has changed, that there are no longer expectations of a 40 or 50 year career along the lines of a Tony BENNETT, that they have to reinvent themselves every three years, that the example was how Britney hit the top then crashed and now has reinvented to the top again.

But there's a lot more to it than that, IMO.
I like his voice, but...no.
Not the greatest ever.

(2,805 posts)The list is compiled from Rolling Stones top 100 singers of all time and then they added some currently popular singers to bring it to say 125 people. Then they analyzed all/most of their recorded music to find those that had the largest vocal range within their recorded songs. http://www.concerthotels.com/worlds-greatest-vocal-ranges
My question is how the hell did TomWaits make number 12? I only own Reservoir Dogs but I can't believe that gravelly voice really hit lots of highs and lows. I'll have to pull that back out and take a listen.
Edit: Knew gravely didn't look right but took me ten minutes of dictionary searches to find the word I meant to use. Still doesn't look right.

(15,577 posts)the only songs I know are "paradise city' and 'the jungle' and I didn't think he was any great shakes..........

(2,805 posts)I've just seen this story on several sites and every other comment is about someone missing from the list and usually that person is on the list. After checking the list for the singers you mentioned and finding all three on there I just wanted to point out that they were not ignored.
Randomly large vocal range does not the "greatest" singer make so the whole list is rather ridiculous. I have to say that I am glad to see many singers who have distinctive voices on the list which to me makes them great whether they have a huge vocal range or not.

(3,655 posts)Rose is no comparrison. On second look, I see that this is vocal range ratings not best singer. Just because you can hit that note in a scream, doesn't mean you have talent. I would like to see Ann Wilson's chart. She can hit that high note and actual sing up there. These two have more talent than most on the list.

(16,319 posts)and there are some very talented singers missing from the list like Sarah Vaughn, she could sing from baratone all the way up to soprano. Any where are Ella Fitzgerald and Patti Labelle?
