The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsIn my old-people stage, some Old People things that are necessary:
* Itching creme, for gardening, bites mites whatever they are. Hydrocortisone 1%. Crème, not gel.
* Anti-bite stuff.
* For dogs: (& horses) "non-toxic & safe for all animals - even CATS!1" ------- it's SULFER. Cures mange, did you know there are two kinds, and if it's not the kind that gives humans SCABIES (within days/weeks) it's the kind that can be fixed with THIS!1 You don't have to pay scavenger veterinarians who will charge you $200 for "tests". There are TWO kinds of mange and if you ain't got scabies, you can fix it with this.

(60,010 posts)Mentholated Vapor rub stuff...even the generic brand.
stops itches/bites/burns/and even poison oak from getting worse, clears up fire ant bites before they can even leave the tell tale mark on your skin. Same with flea or fly bites. Just dab it on thickly the first time, repeat several times during day...
Old age necessities in the southern summer time....bite stuff and zinc body powder for the heat rash areas.
And hats, to block the sun.

(53,339 posts)For Memorial Day we're displaying our half-scale replica of the Wall in Simi, CA.
If our hotel there provides complimentary computers I may be able to pop into DU now and then.
We're on display for a week, and I'll be there for the duration. Any DUers dropping by, just ask for Bob.

One neat cream I discovered is Sulfodene. One of my girls has chronic staph/yeast sores and bumps on her undercarriage.
For the staph, I use a weak water and Betadine solution alternately with some Excel antiseptic spray.
For the yeast on her vulval area, the vet gave us some expensive stuff in this itty bitty tube with a big price tag. Worked, sort of. But it doesn't last long, obviously. So I got a tube of the Sulfodene, which takes care of a number of different sources of doggy misery. And it's not expensive!
Anyway, necessary stuff for old people...
easier-open packaging. I'm sick and tired of fighting with jars and bottles and packages.
For itchies, I also use Vicks Vaporub. Or a freshly cut onion. Except for er....sensitive places. Then hydrocortisone cream is best.
Packages with print that doesn't require a microscope to read.
Maxine and I have a lot in common...

(62,423 posts)in our house with questions to help me remember why I may have come into that room. Can't seem to remember for 10 seconds.
For example: my desk - do I want to get on the internet? Get the scissors? Pet the cat (he's online when I am not)?
Kitchen - did I want a drink?
You get the idea.

I reach for something and KNOCK IT OVER. I reach for something, whether spoons from the utensil rack and they STICK TOGETHER (not from gunk), or I pick up a paper towel and SOMETHING ELSE sticks to it and makes me DROP EVERYTHING.
It's like the Laws of Nature NEVER FORGET, I reach to pick up my trousers and the BELT BUCKLE hooks something to DRAG with it.
