Only had my cell phone on the trip, but, given that, I was pleased with the results. I am hoping to return soon...perhaps even relocate there as I have family close by. Next time I bring the REAL camera.
From Wikipedia: "Garden of the Gods is a public park located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, US. It was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1971."

(21,925 posts)I lived in Colorado Springs when I was a kid in the 60s. At the age of 12 I started exploring the fascinating caves in Williams Canyon near Cave Of The Winds. I became a cave nut. In about 1962, erosion caused the reopening of a long sandstone fissure cave beneath Kissing Camels Rock. I was always crawling over that area looking for new caves. I found the small opening in the concrete that had been cemented shut decades before and that came open and I explored it. It was pretty cool and fairly long and high-ceilinged for a sandstone cave. Days later, it was cemented shut once again and its location hidden by city authorities. The city had planned to open it as a tourist cave in the 1930s but a loose boulder came dislodged and nearly squashed the workers trying to smooth out the cave's tourist route and it was deemed unsafe.

(3,065 posts)I was stationed at Fort Carson there. I remember the balancing rock. Great pictures, Miles. It seems you've been everywhere that I have.

(798 posts)At 18, I spent a year in High School as an exchange student with a host family in Missourah.
After graduation, they took me on a trip to Colorado, where their son lived. We spotted a moose and nearly ran over a porcupine in the mountains, we camped at the Great Sand Dunes, we visited some gorge (can't remember what it was called - only that I was greatly disappointed you were supposed to pay for looking into the gorge).
And then we went to the Garden of the Gods. I took a load of pictures ánd still have them. Somewhere.

(21,754 posts)The politics in Colorado Springs sucks, but the beauty is awesome to behold. A great place to raise your kids too!

(18,837 posts)...I'm the guy who moved from Silicon Valley to the middle of the Nevada desert in late 2012. Politics here are off-the-chart conservative, "Obama wants to take my guns" conspiracy theory stuff. One of the TOP contenders in the race for Sheriff on June 10th is a guy who pulled over a young couple on a routine traffic stop in 1986 and made the woman "partially disrobe" for no apparent reason other than he wanted to make her do it. The case went to trial, he was "exonerated of all charges" but due to pressure from the department / internal affairs he resigned anyway. He was recently arrested for stealing his opponents' campaign signs (they caught him red-handed and VIDEO TAPED HIM). He also got charged with resisting arrest. He can be seen on the video arguing with officers and propping his foot against the squad car door so they couldn't close it. They ended up putting aa second seat belt on him, around his legs. This guy is the front runner because he has basically greased the palms of the "power people" in town.
So Colorado Springs politics, in comparison, is like a breath of fresh air to me.

(3,157 posts)sex to make it interesting, and crimes being covered up because of the sex. basically sheriff Makita has been banging at least 3 people in the office, his undersheriff, the comptroller, and the head dispatcher. all were promoted because of sex, and despite their not being qualified. pressure is growing for him to resign.

(8,291 posts)when it's ungodly hot here in Tucson. Thanks for the photos. My husband has never been to Colorado and I suggested a road trip to see it. This confirms that he would love it. I was there in '72 or '73 so would really like to see it again! Thanks so much!

(8,291 posts)We went there too way back when. My brother fell while goofing off and we had to go to the local 'hospital' clinic to get some stitches for his knee! It reminded me of going into a time warp! That clinic was old! Thanks for the reminder. Cheers!

Really looking forward to it. I'm planning on Doing the Democrat, Lincoln, Cameron and Boss (assuming the private property is open which it isn't always.) Then I'm headed out to the San Juans.
