The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo. Three days ago, I got married.
Nothing fancy at all. The state converted all domestic partnerships into marriages as of June 30. I must say after 23 years together, it is kinda nice to be legal in every aspect of the word.

(54,370 posts)After 8 years with my (then-) girlfriend, my brother called me up and invited me to be best man at his wedding. I said sure, and would call my girlfriend in Germany to see if she could come to America for the occasion, too. My brother commented that if we would both be there, we might as well make it a double wedding. I was OK with that, but I was only half the equation. I called up my girlfriend and relayed my brother's suggestion. Her answer was the German version of "sure, works for me." Not the most romantic of proposals (or acceptances), but that was in 1981 and we're still together, so I guess the movie scene is not an absolute requirement.

(11,843 posts)Traveling to DC next week for my brothers celebration. They got the legal stuff done as soon as it was passed last fall. Now family and friends are getting together for probably the most formal event I'll ever attend. Looking forward to it.
