For my Lady (and all fur friends who have passed)

A poem I wrote many years ago. Dedicated to all our friends.

Bre'r Dog

Bre'r Dog, it's just too fine a night
for layin' at your master's feet
inside too small a house,
when black woods call with endless
scents and sounds-- Prick your ears!
Listen to the distant call! The pack
just wants to run and chase, and
wouldn’t it be fine to stick your wet
cold nose down rabbit holes all filled
with earthy richness, padding paws on
rustling crackling autumn leaves
so cool, so fine to chase a hissing cat
right up a tree, to nip at loping cow’s tails,
running full-speed through the meadows
wet with dew and thick with burrs
so sticky tangly caught within your fur,
and splash on down the running creek,
all chilly cold within the late night madness
breeze, and best of all this deep dark world is YOURS
until the very break of dawn!--
Bre'r dog, what say let's you and me
bust out tonight and do some
howlin' at the moon?

I like your poem. Your dog lives on in the poem. I can visualize her doing all the things in your poem and enjoying them immensely. I wrote a poem for my cat that recently passed too, but it is more sentimental.
