My son just had to move home...early 20s. He was living with his GF of 5 years they broke up..she had another guy the same day. I don't want to go into detail or all the drama but she was very emotionally and sometimes physically abusive. He is going to talk with a therapist so this is not about that end of it.
What I want to know is what do guys do to get through this sort of thing? I know how to help a girl. I am pretty sure my son doesn't want to go to the hair salon or go watch a chick flick or even hang out with me. That is what I did when my girl has a break up or fight with a bff. So anyway any ideas. I am just at such loss.

(27,247 posts)I have never attended any Meetup events in the US, but here in Japan, at least, Meetup is actually a loose collection of various groups of people with similar interests who get together on a fairly regular basis to have fun and maybe learn some things along the way.

He is trying to hang with friends ..the ones left to him they did share a lot of friends. I thought a pass to our local gym. it something that could help his self esteem and not a thing they would do together.

(27,247 posts)There are lots of groups in the Tokyo area, for example, where people just get together at a tea room, cafe, or pub just to shoot the breeze in English and Japanese. There are other meetups where participants can get exposed to some Japanese culture by going to traditional areas like Asakusa in Tokyo.

(27,247 posts)There are lots of groups in the Tokyo area (I assume that's where your son will be going) and the people have been pretty cool. Since your son is a native speaker of English, it would probably be fairly easy for him to find a language exchange group or two that he could feel comfortable with.
