Scottish music thread

The Commonwealth Games are starting soon in Glasgow. The opening ceremony will feature Rod Stewart (then) and Susan Boyle (now).

Who else should they have?

The Proclaimers

Belle and Sebastian

Sheena Easton

Big Country

Teenage Fanclub

and depending on what night of the week it is, the Bay City Rollers.

Who did I miss?

Today's bands that I know of

chvurches: A really good electronic indie pop band

Frightened Rabbit: I saw them play in Montreal a couple of years ago

and a couple from a little further back

Cocteau Twins: They produced some fascinating music

Nazareth: I loved them back in the day when I listened to my Uncles music collection

was always something else. I went through a huge Cocteau Twins phase when I was a teenager.

Maybe a little too new for the games, but would be a great addition.

Mom and I now believe that our Scottish heritage goes back to Wales. The relevant name is Pritchard, formerly U'Pritchard, which apparently derives from the Welsh ap Richard.

Yes, it derives from ap Richard ("ap" is like "Mc" or "Mac" meaning "son of&quot

In Welsh orthography, it would probably be ap Rhishiart Some people are going back to the traditional patronymic naming system.
