The Color Purple is another that leaves me a complete mess (and grateful for it...always good to get emotional calisthenics!)

during the Holocaust she was ordered to "choose" which one of her children she could keep (the other one would die) - of course, they would both die anyways

i can't handle heavy storylines like that

i remember the first movie i went to see after i had my daughter was a poor selection made by the friend i went with--it was a meryl streep movie--a cry in the dark.

omg! i didn't know a thing about it. and it was so very disturbing to me. my daughter was 8 months old and i was so freaked out i had to call home to check on her after the show. we went out after the show but all i could think of was getting back home. it was a terrible, emotional experience.

yeah--there are some movies where i just can't go.

I understand that the book got into so much twisted detail of the relationship she had, which my ex-sister-in-law was like to read. Personally, I can't go there, reading-wise and once was enough for me to do exactly as you have, LynneSin.
