Once more into the breach, dear friends......tomorrow's the day.

Tomorrow I present myself and my defective left shoulder to the hospital where my doctor will operate and hopefully fix said wonky shoulder.

I'm scheduled for out-patient surgery, so I should be home late in the afternoon...

I really REALLY hope this is the last surgery! I want to be myself again...

So, if you can spare them, a few vibes, or good thoughts, or whatever you think will help...I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

1. Tons of good vibes, Peg!

Good that it's out-patient. You'll be home in your own bed tomorrow night. The Pitt family will send some prayers too. God always listens when I pray because she's shocked to hear from me.

Response to CaliforniaPeggy (Original post)

Thu Jul 24, 2014, 06:35 PM

12. Dear Peggy: The really painful part of surgery is when the surgeon is cutting. And this part is

well taken care of with anesthesia. You don't feel a thing. When you wake up post-op, the worst part
is already over and done with. Of course there is pain post-op, too.

Well, I had to endure surgery once without anesthesia because they just ran out of it at that exact
particular time. I was in the Army. Luckily it was minor surgery and lasted about 10 minutes. Even
then, the severest pain occurred only during each incision, and Boy, did I holler each time! It was quite bearable between incisions. But, of course, I was very frightened during the entire 10 minutes. Anticipating the next cut was extremely unpleasant. I know the difference between acute pain and the pain post-op.

I think the above experience made me lose my fear of surgery under normal circumstances, of which
I've had quite a few. I also have no fear of any dental work. The worst part is when the dentist is
sticking the needle into the gums to inject the anesthesia, which I find not too bad. It's all so relative,
and fear does help to magnify the pain.

So, Peggy, if you can think of post-op pain as unpleasant but bearable, you will lose much of that fear.
And that does really help. For me this is not make-believe, or theory only. I know it to be true from first-hand experience. Something good did come out of this awful one-time experience for me.

With all the best and warmest wishes,

Cal

19. My dear Cal33...

Whoo boy, I don't think I could have done it without anesthesia!

I am a little nervous, but that's most likely because this is a repair of a repair. And that ain't good.

But I trust my doctor implicitly and he always does a good job.

He'll be drilling, not cutting, anyway. I can almost hear it!

Thanks so much for your good wishes...

14. Good luck to you Peggy...

my wife had her left knee replaced on Jue 17. She was doing real good, until about a week and a half later. She was laying in bed, just waking up, when her leg went off the edge of the bed and she severely strained her quad. It set her back about 3 weeks. But she is back at it because she is a fighter. You are, too.

Love ya too, sweetie!

86. Good luck today, Peg!

I know you'll come through it like a champ, but I feel for you going through the pain and soreness and catching up to where you were in your PT.

At the same time, I'm happy that you have this solution to restore you to full function and I look forward to your reports down the road.
