For me, it would have to be A Walk to Remember with Mandy Moore and Shane West.

(34,136 posts)It is set in Wales, the land of my ancestors, the story is clever and funny, I think the cast is great, and I love the music.

(34,136 posts)Especially since one of my family names is Morgan. Unfortunately, tracing Mary Morgan, the daughter of David Morgan, in Wales is harder than tracing John Smith.

(34,136 posts)In 1837 William Wright married Mary Morgan in Llanfihangel, Cardiganshire, Wales, William was the son of George Wright and Mary was the daughter of David Morgan. William Wright variously listed his place of birth as London, England and Llanfihangel. Mary was born in Llanfihangel.
That's as far as I have been able to trace them. I need to write the church in Llanfihangel and ask how to get their records.
Their sons David Morgan Wright and John Morgan Wright sailed to the US in 1872. David dropped the Wright surname and moved to Wisconsin. John retained the surname and moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He named one of his sons George William Wright and the other David Morgan Wright.
The Williams in my ancestry lived in South Carolina and had moved there prior to the Revolutionary War. I haven't traced where the family came from before they got to America.

(34,136 posts)Yorkshire - yes, and they are sometimes listed in the Canadian and American census as Scottish. But I have the British census and christening records for them in Yorkshire.
Well, some of the "Irish" may have been Scots-Irish. All my Irish ancestors are Northern Irish, mostly Quakers. Their predecessors may have been imported by the British to hold Northern Ireland. The Quakers bought land directly from William Penn and one family arrived in Pennsylvania before he arrived. The son of one has an affidavit on record about being on the dock when Penn's ship came in to port.

(25,475 posts)So hard to choose. High Fidelity. Addicted to Love. Desperately Seeking Susan. Working Girl. When Harry met Sally. Sleepless in Seattle. Moonstruck. Boomerang. Practical Magic. Sliding Doors. The Truth About Cats and Dogs. French Kiss. She's Having a Baby. Bull Durham. Notting Hill. The Butcher's Wife. I guess soon enough the movies I like won't be considered modern anymore.
