I'm feeling much better tonight.

Thank you for your support and encouragement last night. I appreciate it.

Interesting parallel: today in continuing education, we had a lecture about provider burnout. I actually met few of the diagnostic criteria for burnout, but prominent among them was alcohol abuse (as opposed to alcohol dependence) Periodic binges, things like that.

Physical and emotional exhaustion were two of the others.

But I'm happy to say I haven't lost my enthusiasm for what I do, or my love for my patients. If those things were to happen, I would truly be burned out...

I would not doubt that you meet some of the diagnostic criteria for burnout. Anyone who works as hard as you do and who has supervisors who always want MORE, is at risk.

I'm really glad you're aware of what could happen, and are taking steps to prevent truly complete burnout.

But the kind of burnout that is of concern ususally involves withdrawal from others, not reaching out. (Been there, done that during heavy PTSD reactions.)

From what I saw, I'm not worried about you. Glad you had a chance to let go for a while and decompress. I knew you'd be back in the thick of it with your usual dedication the very next day. It's what you do.

That's very kind. In the lecture today, Isolation and social withdrawal were two of the symptoms I knew I didn't have...

Hope you don't get in that situation again, but sure you will.
Maybe you will be better - uh - prepared(?) next time.

I was a little worried, but not sure what to say. Your job is so stressful.... I hope you can find some better ways to relieve the stress.

We all care about you!
