These are pictures I took of cats I cared for or met on the road the past year.
This is Coco, my sister's cat, the main (indoors only) cat I cared for while house sitting. My sister heard her crying, and found her in a bush at a busy intersection in the LA area, maybe 6 weeks old at the time. No sign of mama cat or siblings anywhere. Now she is 3, has a luxurious long fluffy black cat (and brown if the light hits her right) and weighs a whopping 7 pounds (she's just a small cat). She loves to play and be brushed, but does not like to be picked up except by her owner.
She was sleeping and I guess I startled her when I called her name...hence the wide open eyes!
This is Gray Lady, Coco's housemate but she does NOT like to be indoors and is very skittish. After feeding her for 2 months she finally got around to not bolting for the hills when I opened the back door, but then it was time for me to leave! I'll be doing the same this winter and the whole cycle will probably have to start over...
This picture is blurry but she was probably just starting to run away when I snapped it.
This is "Murray" (that's a name I gave him) a cat that hangs out and takes advantage of the free food and water. He also runs off when approached but now sleeps on the back porch. He might decide to stick around, but it's hard to tell with cats. He is very handsome, don't you think?
Here he is at the food dish.
This is another cat that sometimes hangs out at the feeding station. We don't know her name but she belongs to someone in the neighborhood.
I caught her attention here...Love the green eyes!
This is a cat I met at an antique store in Oro Grande, California. He was friendly and let me pet him.
After awhile he jumped down under a table. I looked down and he had a friend!
When is a Calico cat not a calico cat? When he's a gray and white cat and lives in Calico, California! This guy lives the life of Riley. He lives at the snack bar!
Another shot of him...
And here is Edgar, a beautiful black long haired cat I met in another antique store. He kind of looks like Coco...He let me pick him up though. In this picture it looks like he is expecting it!
And Pistachio, a grocery store cat. Kind of a sly look on his face!
The Cats of Rome.
I met these ginger kitties in Rome, Oregon, which is more like a frontier outpost than a town, located on the Owyhee River, way, far away from anything. The one on top was especially adorable, but they would run away if I approached. Then they would come back. Must have been curious. A stranger! But maybe he has food?
A closer photo of the one I thought was really cute. What eyes!
On the other hand, this kitty was not shy at all. He let me pet him and he purred. Maybe a sibling to the others?
He also looks like Coco but he has tufts on his ears! Maybe part lynx?
I wish I got a better photo but this is all I've got...
Several hours and hundred miles later I stayed at my friends near John Day, Oregon. A couple of cats (obviously brothers) had decided to adopt them and I was surprised! They looked like grown up versions of the 2 kitties I saw earlier that day in Rome. Their names are Scruffy and Bob and both are good at catching rattlesnakes. (4 so far!) Bob is still very skittish (they were feral cats) but Scruffy is very affectionate. These are lousy pics but it was dark, sorry about that!
Scruffy on the left, and Bob on the right...
Scruffy likes to play. That streak in the middle of the picture is actually his favorite purple feather toy. He looks a lot like Felix, my cat for 18 years...
Back home, while I'm at it, I have to share a photo of my friend's cat, Mittens! She is 14 now, a sweet ball of fur.
Mittens can't stand her new neighbor, a kitten named Otis. Another ginger tabby! He is very friendly and likes to play. Here he is doing what kittens do best...
So there you have it. Cats galore, all different, but basically the same! I hope you enjoyed!

(15,949 posts)My husband and kids always tease me that I'm a crazy cat lady.
Pretty much everywhere we go, I find cats. When DH and I were in England and Ireland, everywhere we went, I found a kitty that wanted some pets.
We currently have five of them, which is enough for a household in town with 3 boys and 2 dogs as well.
(And, after all my years on DU, I just now realized, I have no idea how to post pictures here. Sigh.)

Posting pictures on DU is actually easy! You need to get an account at a picture hosting site (a lot of people use Photobucket) Here's a primer on how to do so. The really nice thing is it doesn't cost any money

(7,336 posts)He and Coco have something in common...stretching out!
And Boogie! Such a great name for a cat! I'd like to see his face sometime.
My next door neighbors have a dachshund named Woogie. Maybe they can meet someday. Then it will be Boogie Woogie time!
Arkansas Granny
(31,476 posts)Full Tilt Boogie. Here's one I got about a month ago. He has grown since then (I estimate his age at about 4 months now).

His eyes are more gold than yellow. The picture doesn't do them justice. He's a handsome lad.

So pretty! Thanks for sharing.

(6,336 posts)The blurry one of Gray Lady looks like it could be a painting.

(50,566 posts)Pistachio's picture made me tear up because it reminds me of my precious kitty girl who died a couple years ago at age 19.5. I currently have three boy kitties -- very handsome all.
Tom Kitten
(7,336 posts)It is so hard because their lives are short compared to ours. I still think of my first cat who died in 1990. He was a beautiful stray who adopted us, maybe a Norwegian Forest Cat or Maine Coon. It turned out he had leukemia and died when he was 11. He was a great cat!
I have pictures of all the cats I've owned (4) but they're prints. Someday soon I'm planning on organizing them and taking them to a UPS (or similar) store and having them scan them for me. Then I will post them, maybe.
But it's great you have 3 kitties now! I'll bet they're a handful!
Arugula Latte
(50,566 posts)Yes -- they are a handful! One is a Maine Coon (or part) and he is a magnificent fluffy boy with a 'tude who is also a snuggler. But all the kitties keep us laughing.
Good luck with your photos. I'm always overwhelmed about dealing with them!

(5,376 posts)Great photos, beautiful cats and I loved the captions you posted. I used to live in John Day, and that's where a tiny orange ball of fluff showed up on our doorstep one day, and he's with us still. Named him Julius--you can probably guess way. We now live west of JD and a bunch of local cats have discovered that we keep a supply of kitty kibbles on our back deck, for Julius of course, but lately he's had lots of company. Guess word gets around the 'hood that his cafeteria is open! I'm learning to love 'em all. We also have an elderly Russian Blue named Gracie who looks a lot like your Gray Lady, except much skinnier. "Inherited" her from our daughter three years ago, happy to say she and Julius co-exist quite nicely, which is good since Jules had been an "only cat" for ten years.
Incidentally, I love the Rome area. One of my favorite parts of Oregon. Thanks so much for posting pics of all these special kitties. A winner, each and every one!
Blessings.

(7,336 posts)Glad to meet you! I actually stayed in Canyon City, near their downtown, right on Hwy 395. I've been there many times, one of my favorite parts of Oregon. I live in Portland, and I usually go out there by Hwy 26 and do the loop back, through Fossil and Condon to I-84 at Biggs and home.
I went to Rome because I wanted to see parts of the country I've never seen and had spent the previous night in Winnemucca. Rome was only 17 miles off my route and I had just found about the Pillars of Rome and wanted to see them. The lady at the cafe/store/motel/gas station/airport told me how to get there, and I did see some of them, but there was a lot more I could see in the distance but I didn't know how to get there and time was becoming a factor. I plan to go there again, though. I might post some photos I took there...when I do I'll let you know!

(5,376 posts)Have a friend who lives near there, and she has lotsa cats, too. How nice that you take the lovely and scenic routes on your visits to and from. Gorgeous drive! Glad you took the time to visit the Rome area, which boasts some fun hot springs, or so I hear. I absolutely love the Alvord Valley/Steens Mountain area. Hope you can find your way back to wild and beautiful SE Oregon sometime soon. Meanwhile, I look forward to the photos when they're posted! More cat photos are always fun, too.
Glad to meet you, too. Love your avatar!

I saw an adorable cat on reddit today.
Just look at the face on this kitty!
I don't know what kind of a look that is, but it sure is cute!

(7,336 posts)You've got a sharp eye - I didn't notice the orange before but you're right! I edited & made the correction - Thank you!
As for the cat and the biker, what a marvelous shot! My last year in college I got a kitty named Dave and sometimes I would put him in my backpack when I walked around. His head would poke out and he'd look all around and boy did we get noticed!
"Hey, you're the guy with a cat in his backpack!"
"My friend saw you the other day. She said you were carrying Dave around in your backpack!"
