I'd really rather pay their rates for a will than the $500+ that local lawyers here charge for one, even a very simple one. Any opinions and/or feedback?

(64,411 posts)But outsourcing one's attorney needs to the internets seems to me, a tad...stupid.
I'd rather pay the $500 or whatever to have a well-schooled individual with complete local knowledge of my real and personal property handle my final wishes, or the final wishes of a loved one. I wouldn't outsource heart surgery to the internets either.
Lawyers...hate them all you want, but we all still need them and rightfully so.

(717 posts)did a simple will just so I had one. The way they have it set up is very easy to use. I don't see a reason to pay $500 to someone to fill in the blanks for me. I would not use them for anything complex but I think they are OK for basic stuff

(131,063 posts)I, an attorney, don't object on principle (limpballs notwithstanding,) but my attorney (on a different, long-term matter) offered to do my will (will be simple) for 1/2 price, he said $150 I think. $500+ sounds high to me, in DC area.

(4,851 posts)But if you have any concerns about taxes, avoiding probate with certain assets, its worth calling a lawyer. Also, no lawyer I know would charge $500 for a simple will. I charge $150 flat rate for a simple will in the NYC area. There are lots of lawyers and the prices are driven down all the time.
