(5,946 posts)I heard a cement dock already landed in Alaska. Hey, stuff happens, The 3 eyed shrimp in the gulf is not made up. If I wait until it is reported it will be too late. I love seafood especially shell fish, but it seemed wise to give it up with all the issues lately. I doe eat fish from Iceland still.

(68,644 posts)I just had a couple small lobster tails yesterday that I got at Trader Joes.
Crab, in some ways, is yummier!

(5,670 posts)Even better than the late lamented abalone we used to enjoy.

(39,961 posts)though lobster claw meat is delicious. I find the tails to be a bit too chewy for my liking, though I might not have cooked the tail I had correctly.

(68,644 posts)Not bad, however, are little crayfish tails, and their claws are good too.
I think I'd prefer a 1/2 pound of fresh crab meat in front of me to the same amount of lobster tail!

(50,130 posts)I won't buy one that's under two pounds. Won't pay for mostly shell.

(2,916 posts)I paid $40 for three crabs which indicates about 1.6 lbs. each. That was a pretty nice size... lots of meat. Four of us had our fill. I paid top dollar (Whole Foods). They were the only store that had the fresh catch at this point. Later the other stores will probably have them for less
Dungenous Crab has been one of my favorite foods forever and I would not deny myself the pleasure of partaking in the first catch for any reason if I could help it.
I would pretty much pay anything for whatever size is available... as long as its fresh.

(53,521 posts)...is that we don't get to have fresh-from-the-boat crab and lobster.
Oh well, there's always walleye!

(36,827 posts)You basically have to just show up and see if they have any extra, but when they do you get them just flown in from the coast at great prices.

(25,528 posts)"Luncheon, if we were home and not picnicking in the woods, might be just cracked crab with Mother's fine mayonnaise, or a crab salad with shredded young cabbage, a tiny bit of celery, a touch of onion and plenty of good crabmeat -- two parts crab to one of vegetables, tossed with a judicious amount of mayonnaise. This was fantastically good eating and was often served as a company lunch, along with legs of crab as a garnish and thin-sliced hard-boiled eggs. We had big peach-blossom Chinese bowls for salads, and the dish looked extremely handsome as it was brought to table. With this lunch went thin homemade bread and butter or hot rolls or muffins and fresh fruit, a tart or one of Mother's quick coffeecakes."
