yeah, the power went out so dinner got a bit effed up and the roads were cruddy coming home (the snow was above my ankles walking from the car to the apartment), but we had a great day.
i got what i asked for and more (fuck yeah tng command uniform bath robe complete with captain's pips and comm badge), i had tasty breakfast, tasty booze and a day spent playing trivial pursuit and cards with my sister. dad, sister, husband and i sat by the light of a kerosene lamp and played cards for a few hours, warmed by the wood stove. my 17-year-old kitteh, the true love of my heart, slept at my feet all last night.
it's 22 out right now but i bundled up and enjoyed some porch time, warmed not only by coolest fucking robe in the history of the world, but also by a local brew and the hash my buddy gifted me for the holiday (fuck yeah living in colorado!). i made a beeline for it as soon as i got home and completely forgot that i was supposed to let my sister know that we got home safely, so that resulted in a phone call. i straight up told them i could not have any conversation beyond we got home safely and that garnered a good laugh.
now i'm gorging on a bacon chocolate bar and chocolate-covered dried cherries from my stocking and being together with the husband and kittehs.
joyous season, all

(26,117 posts)I'd love to see a photo of the robe!
(And your OP title made me think you were wishing for electric light for all of us, since your power was out. LOL)

(149,640 posts)Our families came together over a wonderful meal, and much fun was had by all. The kids played on the beach, and then opened presents and proceeded to trash the living room with bits of toys and wrapping paper!
The only downside was the length of the drive to get there and then back home. I am really tired tonight, but a good night's sleep will soon put that to rest.
Sorry your dinner was not as you'd hoped it would be...but I'm glad the rest was great.
A joyous season to us all!

(24,146 posts)the snow here has finally tapered off to about nothing, but it's cold tonight. first white christmas we've had since we got four feet in a week in 2007.

(5,604 posts)and they said that last night was statistically the warmest Christmas eve since 1964 here in Southern Ontario. They recalled, that it started to rain like crazy, and then turned to snow and before it was over there was about 2 feet of snow, just after boxing day.

(21,046 posts)He is a nice guy who doesn't have any family to spend Christmas with. His parents are dead. He's a bit younger than me but still a baby boomer.
We sat up last night and drank )He is into beer) and watched music videos and sang along to The Police playing "Every Breath You Take".
I cooked all day.
Then I took a nap.
Then we had a jam session. Cousin brought his Cerwin amp and his Fender Telecaster and tried to teach me some simple songs. He plays guitar in heavy metal power trio. The simplest thing I learned was Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. His favorite bands are Saxon and Budgie.
I got out my Fender jazz bass tuned like a cello (C-G-D-A) and we jammed. Hubby got on his acoustic.
I am glad everything turned out ok. We had turkey breast, Pepperidge Farm stuffing, sweet potatoes with oranges and pineapple in it and marshmallows on top, and chocolate cream cheeze pie.
All of the above except the turkey breast cooked by yours truly.
Cousin brought us a bottle of good Scotch that does not taste like mouthwash.
We gave him a fresh set of bass strings.
I got candy bars, fruit and fresh bottles of booze. Hubby is gonna turn me into a drunk yet. Fresh bottles of Cointreau and Goldschlater.
